Mangum Fleming, 67, who died*
Tuesday morning in Morehend City
Hospital were held at 11 o'clock
Thursday morning in the First
Methodist Church. Morehead City.
Burial was in Bay View Cemetery.
The Rev. L. A. Tilley of Rock
ingham, former pastor of the First
Methodist Church, assisted by the
Rev. J. C. Gill, pastor of the First
Baptist Church, Warrenton. nephew
of Mrs. Fleming, officiated.
Mrs. Fleming was born in Frank
lin County, the daughter of the
late James Ruffin and Margaret
Green Mangum. She had been mak
ing her home in Morehead City
with her daughter, Mrs. H. M.
Eure, for the past 17 years. Prior
to that time she had lived in War
renton.
Surviving are two daughters,

Demonstration
Sixteen Newport firemen recent
ly attended a fire extinguisher
demonstration in Newport present
ed by Lloyd N. Garner, Cherry
Point Fire Department lieutenant.
Six different types of extinguish
ers were explained and demon
strated in the special meeting, part
of the summer training for New
port firemen, at the Newport Fire
Station. Cut-away models of soda
acid, foam and carbon dioxide ex
tinguishers were used during the
demonstration.
Three "model" fire? were built
and members of the department
had a chance to use the various
types of chemical on the fires. One
fire was a Class A or wood fire.
The other two fires were gasoline
and oil fires, and listed at Claaa B.
Extinguishers demonstrated were
the one-quart carbon tetrachloride,
the two-and-a-half gallon soda-acid,
the two-and-a-half-gallon foam, the
five-gallon back pack Indian water
pump, the 19-pound carbon dioxide,
and the 20-lmund dry chemical.
