Rise, who also directs the Public
Works Service in state-level civil
defense, has set up the program.
"Adequate Civil Defense presents
a definite challenge to all pro
fessions" Professor Rice stated, to
medical men and engineers in par
ticular. The doctors are already
well prepared to meet their re
sponsibility . . . And we hope, by
acquainting our membership with
Civil Defense facts, to integrate the
combined professional skill they
represent into Civil Defense at all
levels. Coordination must be
achieved at the earliest possible
date."
State Civil Defense Director Grif
fin commended the proposed plan
in a statement calling attention to
Professor Rice's wide experience
In national defenae work. During
World War I he directed the edu
cational program of the Navy Die
sel School and was instrumental in
securing the multi-million dollar
School for State College, which was
later given to the state for educa
tional and research programs. "His
first-hand knowledge of defense
planning is a valuable asset to our
N. C. Civil Defense," Griffin said.
