Duncan, laiaa-io-n Provide Plenty of Space When Planning Boys' Room By VIVIAN BROWN AP Newsfeatures Writer Little boys need room to stretch their legs. When two young lads share a room there is no reason why they should stumble over each ' other and be reminded constantly to keep the room ship-shape. Little shavers who play with mud, in sects and animals outdoors hardly should be expected to act like Lit tle Lord Fontleroys when they cross the threshold to their bed room. Smart and considerate mothers will choose good washable fabrics in plaid stripe or another perky pattern for bedcovers and window draperies. They'll put inexpensive fiber rugs on the floors and use sturdy but chic budget furniture. Bunk beds are ideal space sav ers for a boys' room. Corduroy in masculine color schemes such as plaid in shades of brown on a maize ground, teamed' with maize curtains that match the back ground color of the spread are typical of the handsome combin ations that can be tailored even by amateurs. Youth size beds 36 in. by 72 in. long may be furnished with attrac tive coverlets in jiffy time. All you do is get two widths of 36-inch corduroy in a 108-inch length, giv ing ample tuck-in for the pillow and a good drape at the foot of the bed. If the beds are stacked, the upper spread can be tucked in and the lower one allowed to drape, or both can be tucked in. Seam the lengths together, hem ing the two ends. Put the spreads on the bed to locate where the white cotton fringe is to go. Pin the fringe in place so that it out lines the edge of the mattress. Mark locations for corner slits in the foot of the spread. Remove and check measurements for accuracy, then stitch fringe and put the nar rowest of hems in the slits. For curtains use two widths of the desired length, one inch long er than the distance from the top of the curtain rod to the bottom of the window apron.. Stitch three rows of cotton fringe across the bottom pf each length ? multi-col or braid gives a nice decorative touch and ties the curtains and bed spread together nicely. Finish the tops of the curtains with pleating tape stitched on the wrong side. Insert the pleating hooks and you're finished. Spreads and curtains made of corduroy which is preshrunk and fast color may be washed repeated ly if a gentle laundering method is used. When almost dry the cor duroy should be brushed vigorous ly with a clean clothes brush to raise the pile. Neat Burglary Waterbury. Conn. (AP) ?
