Willi* Sr. were honored with a cake cutting on their (olden wedding anniver sary Tuesday night by their >ix children at the Willi* home, 1000 Arendell St. The children are Mr. Herman Keith Willis, the Rev R T. Willi* Jr., Mrs. J. M Davis, Mr Bruce Willis, Mr Rupert Earl Willi*, all of Morehead City and Dr. Carroll Willis of Vanceboro. Also present at the cake cutting were 10 grand children and three great-grandchil dren The guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. J. M. Davis. Mrs. Ru pert Earl Willis and Mrs. R. T. Wil lis Jr. Mrs. A. B. Vick Jr. pre sided at the guest book. There were bowls of yellow flow ers arranged throughout the living room. Three-branched candelabra hold ing lighted yellow tapers flanked an arrangement of gold chrysan themums and carnations on the table in the dining room, and a traditional wedding cake was or namented in gold and topped by a miniature bride and groom. After the first slice of cake was cut by Mr. and Mrs. Willis, Miss Patricia Willis served the cake. Serving the punch were Mrs. Ray Danielson, Mrs. Carroll Willis and the Misses Cynthia and Mary Lynn Davis. The honored couple received many attractive and lovely gifts. In additions to these remembran ces there were numerous tele grams, letters and cards of congrat ulations. Junior Woman's Club Makes Plans for Tea The Junior Woman's Club of Morehead City met Wednesday night at the Civic Center and made plans for a membership tea to be held next Wednesday afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Civic Center. The cake cutung was originally scheduled for Monday night, the actual date of the anniversary, but had to be postponed until Tues day night because of the storm. Mr. Willis was born at Atlantic Station, the present site of Mans field. Sept. 28, 1879 He built his first dry goods store next door to his present location of R. T. Willis and Sone on Aren dell Street. The cost was % 196 and the size was 20 feet by 30 feet. He leased the ground for five years at $30 a year and in 1904, before the five years were up, he built the first brick store in town, the same one he is in today. In 1904 he married Miss Lillie Webb, sister of D. M. Webb and took a week off from his business to take his bride to Seven Springs. They made their home on the sec ond floor of bis new building. It was many years before he could build his present home on Arendell Street. After Mr. Willis married, he had a horse and cart and on Sunday af ternoons he took his wife and children to ride. Hp remembers luis as his greatest pleasure as the children were growing up. Some of the many people who have worked for him in his store are Elijah Guthrie. Clem Oglesby. Elmer Nichols. R. A.
