Swansboro Aug. 31- The Swansboro people were mighty proud to hear that Governor Umstead has appointed Mr. John Pat Ervin as Justice of Peace lor Swansboro precinct. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Woolerton visited his mother, Mrs. Carolyn Woolerton, of Wilmington, last weekend. Mrs. Kenneth Meadows was In New Bern last Tuesday. Mrs. Ed Brown and daughter, Tootsie, were visitors in Jack sonville last Wednesday. Mrs. Velma Harper of Kinston visited Mr. and Mrs. Bland Howard last week. Mrs. Annie Smith has returned home after visiting relatives at Sneads Ferry and Wilmington. Mrs. Bland Howard visited re latives in Kinston and Seven Springs recently. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Littleton and Keith had as their dinner guest last Friday evening Miss Dora Moore of Raleigh. Mrs. S. E. Jones Jr., and daugh ter, Susan, and Mary K. Passing ham were visiting in Kinston last Saturday. Friends were sorry to hear that Mrs. Pat Ervin is a patient at Chapel Hill Memorial Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. The Swansboro Baptist Church invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. each Sunday morning and to church services at 11 a.m., and each Sunday evening at 7:30. There is always special music rendered by the choir. Circle Entertains The Business Woman's Circle of the Baptist Church gave a social in honor of Miss Rosemary Canady, bride of the month, at the home of Mri. Elbert Benton. The home was decorated with summer flowers and greenery. Upon arrival the guest of honor was presented with a lovely milk glass cake plate on a stand. Refreshments of bridal cakes, mints, nuts and lemonade were served. Those attending were Mesdames Geraldine Biocll, Helen Zapata, Pansy Benton, Elsie Strele, Blonnie Walker, Doris Cobb, Daisy Jones, Mary Kietzman, Lila Mae Holland, Marie Brite, Margaret Slate, and Miss Billie Jean Casper. Arnold of Havfelock in accepting the charter, outlined the aims of the post, stressing the goal of ac tion as a continuing program of community projects with emphasis on youth projects including Amer ican Legion Junior Baseball. State Commander Faust from Spencer, N. C., expressed his pleasure in presenting his first post charter sin!* taking over last May. 24. He stressed the import ance of living up to this year's Le gion slogan, "Service to others." Seven officers of the new post were sworn in by Commander Faust as he outlined the responsi bilities of each. The new officers are Allen L. Arnold, post comman der; Ken Tiffany, first vice-com mander; M/Sgt. E. Zacavich, sec ond vice -commander; Charles E. Lutz, adjutant; A. H. Uhlman, fi nance officer; Lieutenant W. C. Croas, service officer; and R. B. Shinkle, sergeant-at-arms. Father Frank Howard, chaplain, and Lt. Col. T. J. Morgan, legal officer, were unable to be present for the ceremony. The military personnel among the officers were all from the Marine Corps Air Sta tion at Cherry Point. Congressman Barden, the prin cipal speaker, gave a vigorous talk on the danger of Communism and how the Legion can combat this menace. At one point he compared freedom of the communists in this country to fhe tolerating of a rat tlesnake in the living room of your home.
