Beaufort, Eagles Blank Foes In Football Openers Seadogs Crush New Bern JV, 38-0; Pittman Stars By RIP WILDER Beaufort football coach Hugh Gordon unleashed his pack of 1954 Seadogs Thursday night and they swarmed over New Bern's JVs, 384), before an estimated 950 spec tators who sat in intermittent showers. The Beaufort squad displayed a well-rounded offensive machine which was sparked by the hip swinging running of Murray Pitt man and pass-catching of Gehr mann Holland Beaufort took control of the game early in the first quarter when Harold Willis electrified the crowd with a blazing 70-yard touch down sprint. The New Bern attack was bot tled up most of the night by the defensive play of Holland, Pitt man, and tackles Alex Copeland and Ed Willis. The only serious Bear threat came late in the third quarter and was halted when Ed Willis inter cepted a lateral on the Beaufort 6 yard line. Pass Pays Off Beaufort garnered their second score of the night in the second quarter on a 21-yard pass from Pittman to Holland. A few minutes later, the pulsat ing Pittman zig zagged his way 45 yards to the third Seadog tally on a punt return. Coach Gordon sent in a complete ly new team late in the second quarter. The squad took over on their own 18 and thrilled the crowd with a 72-yard drive which was capped by a 40-yard dash by Jim-< mie Norris as the half ended. At half time Beaufort held a 19-0, margin. The Seadogs were stymied in the third quarter but started moving again in the final period. Gehrmann Holland split the uprights as he kicked the extra point, giving the Seadogs an early 7-0 lead. Holland kicked off for Beaufort and Huggins gathered it in and went to the New Bern 35. "I'm going to work down there this summer and if my asthma bothers me I'm going to Southern Methodist," he said. The Eagles sailed to several long runs during the night with Kemp Wickizer, Norman Larkee and Dan ny O'Neal being the top "get away" boys. Co-captain Bobby Willis proved to be a masterful quarter back with running and passing in cluded in his versatility. The rain which peppered down at intervals failed to dampen the enthusiasm of approximately 1,400 spectators and the Morehead City team. Larkee Dashes 40 Yards Norman Larkee, 150 pounds of speed and sprinting ability, shot the Eagles out to an early lead in the first quarter with a 40-yard scat into paydirt on the first series of downs in which Morehead City had handled the ball. On the following kickoff Swans boro's Millard Johnson got off the visitors' longest run as he started on his own 15 and, following good blocking, moved up the sidelines to the Morehead City 40. Bobby Willis pushed over the Eagle's second tally on a quarter back keep play from the 10.
