Town Calendar
The Morehead City Jaycecs have
undertaken a new money-raising
project. They are sponsoring a
Community Birthday calendar.
Jerry Frazelle, chairman of the
calendar project, said that in ad
dition to the usual information, the
calendar will carry the birth dates
of persons in town and listings of
civic meetings.
A fee will be charged for the
listing of a person's birthday and
the calendar will be sold. Mr. Fra
zelle said the calendar will make
discount offers, and free merchan
dise will be given to those whose
birthdays are listed.
He said Jaycees will start taking
listings for the calendar within the
next few months. Proceeds will be
used for Jaycees service projects
including youth activities.

City, ion ol Van ait Willi*, Beau I
fort, told Beaufort police at 10:40
Wednesday night that a gang ol i
Negro men jumped him. stole (35
and a watch from him and beat ,
him up.
Willi* said that he wa? in his 1
car, a IMS Plymouth, (topped at
the stop sign at Queen and Pine
Street*, Beaufort, headed aoutk.
According to Police Chief M. E.
Guy, one of "*even or eight" Ne- 1
groe* standing at the corner came I
to Willi* and asked for a match. 1
When Willis reached for it, the
chief said, all the other fellows
piled in the car and one stuck a ?
knife in his back and ordered him ;
to turn left.
He followed their directions and
in a few minutes ended up on Mul- :
berry Street in back of the Negro i
school where Willis told police
mat the men beat him up. took his ,
money and watch from him, then i
let him go.
He immediately notified the po- i
lice and Assistant Chief Carlton ;
Garner and Patrolman Steve Bea
chem, with Willis, went back in
the vicinity of the alleged attack.
After looking around awhile, Willis
identified Albert Jones as one of
the men who jumped him.
Officer Garner said he asked
Jones some questions and then
told him to come along with him
for questioning. At that. Officer
Garner said Jones struck him on
the side of the face. The officer
said he tried to grab Jones but
Jones took his shirt off. By that
time Officer Beachem came from
the police car and Jones, according
to Officer Garner swung at Patrol
man Beachem and smashed his
glasses.
As Officer Beachem started to
ward Jones again. Jones kicked him
on the leg. Officer Garner said he
turned to help Officer Beachem
and when he saw he was all right,
turned back to Jones who was
standing there without a stitch of
clothes on.
The exchange of blows took place
in front of Jane's Luncheonette on
ljueen Street. Officer Garner said
that try as hard as he could, he
wouldn't get a hold on the man. so
lie went to the car and got his night
stick and told Jones he was tired
if getting bloodied up for nothing.
He told him to put his clothes
back on and come with the officers
ind if he didn't he was going to
#rap the night stick around, his
neck. *
With that, Junes agreed to come
with Officer Gamer, . . because,"
lie said, "I've seen you use that
(tick."
Jones was being held without
bond in the town jail yesterday on
9 charge of assaulting two officers.
He told police that he had nothing
to do with the reported attack on
Willis.
In addition to taking the money
>nd watch. Willis said the men took
ill the tools out of his car.

A group opposing used a letter
from Burch dated Aug. 27, 1954, in
in effort to substantiate its claim
hat the beach board had included

The letter from Burch said in

New streets in the northeast

Statement Issued
After the criticism, the town

t had included certain streets ly
ng outside the town in this yeaV's
ipplication for Powell Bill money,
>ut added, "The application was

Beach Commissioner Hob Ander

The board also has said it will

Town Clerk Eure's letter to
