HELEN KELLER Despite her double handicap of blindness and stone deafness, and her age, 72, Helen Keller, author, educator and one of the great personages of our time, lives a remarkably active, normal life. At her home near Westport, Conn., she spends a full, busy day, much of it in her library working on her lectures or answering her mail from oil parts of the world. The letters are concerned mainly with work for the blind end the deaf. In typing, she's equally adept in using either the Braille or standard machine. She does housework to a certain extent, gets about alone, if necessary, but generally with her companion and secretary, Miss Polly Thomson, a member of her "family" since 1914. Miss Keller likes to walk, and in free moments stroll* the grounds around the house. In the summer time she is out of doors by 5:30 weeding her garden and clipping grass around trees or down the driveway. She visits New York City once a month, combining her shopping with a visit to the offices of the American Foundation for the Blind, of which she is counsellor ?nd a trustee. Right now, she is busily preparing for a trip to South America. There she will be a guest of government officiols and continue her work for the blind- deaf.
