Hazel Passed This Way
Collapsed roofs made a "Splinterville" of the former popular
boardwalk retreats.
Debris like this littered each side of the causeway between More
head City and Beaufort. State Highway crews were clearing the high
way right-of-way this nasi week after those who lost property in the
storm salvaged what they coiil.d.
This photo shows the demolished boardwalk area at the beach and <
the Ocean King Hotel at right which wav severely damaged by the
wind and tide.
The roof of Freeman Brothers store, in the 700 block of Arendell
Street, Morehead City, crashed to the street about noon the day of
the storm. Fortunately no one was injured when the weighty mass
flew down. Those who heard it said it "made an awful roar." The
debris mangled the sign on the theatre and smashed the plate glass
window in Relk's.

Guests at the Bogue Sound Best |

Miss Hughes said the welfare de

persons could be placed. Persons
interested in accommodating such
guests should contact Miss Hughes
