tor of St. Andrews Episcopal
Church was the guest speaker at
the winter meeting o I the Woman's
| Club in the civic center Monday
night.
The club theme is "Your Self
discipline, Understanding and
Faith Will Light the World." The
Rev. Mr. Brown, introduced by
Mrs. E. M. Dewey, spoke of the
first part of the theme, "Self-dis
cipline."
In the absence of the president,
Mrs. A. B. Roberts, who was ill,
the vice-president, Mrs. Truman
Kemp, presided over the business
meeting.
After the repeating of the club
collect and the singing of Old
North State, a quartet under the
direction of Mrs. Austin Williams
sang two songs. The quartet, com
posed of Charles Canfield, Kenneth
Putnam, Earl Wade and 'Jerry
Willis, sang Steal Away to Pray
and Have Thine Own Way, Lord.
The American Home Department
served refreshments in the east
room of the civic center at the con
clusion of the meeting. From a
table centered with a large bubble
bowl filled with red camellias, Mrs.
Morton Davis poured tea.
Open -face sandwiches, chocolate
wafers, and banana and nut cake
were also served.
Two Guests Honored
At Wednesday Club
The Wednesday Bridge Club had
two guests when they met at the
home of Mrs. R. W. Taylor this
week. They were Mrs. Dow Las
siter and Mrs. W. J. Blair.
The high score winner of the
afternoon was Mrs. C. B. Arthur.
Second high was Mrs. S. W. Thomp
son, with low score being won by
Mrs. Blair.
Mrs. Taylor served refreshments
of toasted bacon rinds, toasted
cheese sandwiches, salted and
candied pecans, fudge and cakes.
