Dance Will Follow Banquet
Of Juniors, Seniors, in May

The Junior class had a meeting
last Tueaday, at 0:80 a.m. They
discussed the Junior^eoior ban
quet they are planning and want
it to be a tremendous success
The Junior-Senior banquet will
be Friday, May ?, at the Bogue
Sound Club. Tbe dance following
the dinner will Jiegin at 8 o'clock.
The junior class boys challenged
the senior boys In a basketball
game Friday at 2:30 p.m.. In the
school gym. The Juniors won with
a score of 48-29. The proceeds will
go for the juhior-senior banquet.
The Annual staff met last Wed
nesday after school in Mr. Moor
ing's home-room. The staff is
earnestly at work to complete the
planning for the 1854-1853 Annual.
The staff has decided to hold regu
lar meetings every Wednesday
after school.
Pictures of the faculty and the
superlatives for the Annual were
taken last Tuesday.
The boys Hi-Y sponsored a
spring-time hayride last Thursday
at 7 p.m.
The junior class gave a square
dance in the school gym last Fri
day night. Proceeds from the dance
will go to the junior class treasury.

The girls Tri-Hi-Y haa success
fully and officially taken in 17 new
members with its new plan for ad
mission. The Tri-Hi-Y now has
open membership for all girls who
are interested in becoming mem
bers.
Many girls were made very hap
py by this new plan. Many girls
who have long desired to become
a member of the dub had their
wish fulfilled at t|>e meeting,
Thursday, March 17.
The maximum for the club's
membership cannot succeed SO ac
cording to the club's constitution.
For this reason all the sophomore
girls who applied for membership
were not admitted to the club. The
sophomore girls realise that mem
bership preference went to juniors
and seniors, snd that they will have
another chance for membership
next fall. I

Basis for Pretty Maternity Blouse

Hubby's shirt seems to be stand
ard equipment (or young mothers
to-be these days. The pretty mater
nity overblouses are slipped on far
dinner, movies or cocktail parties.
But the sturdy, washable shirt does
daytime duty for household chores.
A girl's morale is important,
however, even when she's alone 'in
the house, and a 'man's shirt la
not noted for chic. Local sewing
center experts offer a few tips on
how to dress up the male shirt to
make it attractive and feminine,
without sacrificing its practical
virtues.
First thing to do is cut off the
tail to a becoming length. Put in
a neat hem and border with 'a strip
of bias binding.
Even though the sleeves arc
too long, you can achieve a be
coming detail without major al
terations. Simply put a couple of
rows of binding on the cuff and
push up the cuffs to the elbow for
a pretty lantern-sleeve silhouette.
Now for the collar. Just Uke it
off, and stitch around the opened
?earn at the binding. You can
nuke a square yoke effect with
more of the contrasting bias bind
ing and use the same to border
the front closing. This gives a
nice long-line effect which will
draw attention away from your
girth, and also disguises the left
to-right buttoning.
For a finishing touch, add a
little bow-tie at the neckline, and
you have a trim and becoming
maternity blouse. One of your
husband's old shirts, which has a
frayed collar, is perfect for the
purpose.
When you are making a mer
ingue for a lemon pie, start beat
ing in the sugar gradually as soon
as the egg whites are frothy. If
you add the sugar at this frothy
stage, instead of waiting until the
whites form stiff peaks, the sugar
will dissolve well and help prevent
the meringue from "weeping"
when the pie comes from the oven.
