Chamber Elects Directors Friday at Atlantic Meeting Government OKs Destruction Of Draft Files Raleigh -Col. Thomas H. Upton, State Director of Selective Service, said today that he has received no tice from the Director of Selective Service to proceed with the dis posal of the individual files of re gistrants of the Selective Training and Service Act 01 1940, as amend ed. He pointed out that any World War 11 registrant needing infor mation from his World War II se lective service file should request it now before the loss of such in formation by destruction of the records. The information must be re quested from the State Director of Selective Service, Raleigh, either in person or by letter signed by the registrant. Colonel Upton also stated that the Director of Selective Service advises that the great majority of | the World War II files have served ? all discernable administrative pur poses in the operation of the Uni versal Military Training and Ser vice Act and that the Joint Com mittee of Congress on the Dispo sition of Executive Papers has ap- i proved of the disposal of individual files of registrants of the Selec tive Training and Service Act of | 1940. The only World War II files to j be retained are those of registrants ] classified at any time in Class IV-C i (Alien), which have been request ed by the Immigration and Natu ralization Service. Files obtained under the current i draft act will continue to be main- i tained by each registrants local board. Ham Wins Award For Aid After Hazel Ted Davis, Morehead City, an amateur radio operator, has re ceived a citation for helping main tain communications following Hurricane Hazel. The Edison Radio Amateur Award, in the form of a certifi cate, was included with a letter from S. E. McCallum, secretary of Edison Rpdio Amateur Award Committee, Schnectady, N. Y. Mr. Davis's call letters are W4 RAZ. More than 1,200 "hams" helped to maintain communications throughout the areas stricken by the hurricane, according to the ci tation. Mr. Davis is manager of the Morehead City Chamber of Com merce. Navigators Get Warning On Dangerous Areas From 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the area in the vicinity between Browns Inlet and Bogue Inlet and 21.000 yard* seaward within the existing danger zone will be hazard ous to navigation because of Ma rine firing exercises. From 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday the area between Browns Island and Bear Inlet will be hazardous to navigation. These announcements are made by the Corps of Engineers, Wil mington, There are about 2,500 known species of lizard. ? Sixteen directors, one from each of the communities in the Sea Level Chamber of Commerce were elected at a meeting at the Atlan tic School cafeteria Friday night. Pigott, Gloucester; Capt. Jim Harker, Harkers Island; Mrs. Georgiana Yeatman, Merrimon; Charles Davis Harris Jr., Marshall berg; Mrs. Stanley Wahab, Ocra coke. Leoland Gillikln. Otway; Ed Wil lis, Smyrna; Dan Hamilton, Stacy; Sam Leffers, Straits, and Wesley Willis, Williston. The directors later elected offi cers. They are Clayton Fulcher Jr., president; Mis. Mr. King, vice-president in charge of traffic of Southern Rail way, told the group that the Sou thern would be coming into Car teret County in the not too distant future. State Revokes Driving Rights Four drivers of this area have lost their licenses, and three Car teret motorists have been put un der suspension by the State High way Safety Division. , ^ Licenses revoked are those **?f Thomas Casper Kilgore, Newport: Malcolm Earl Wealton and George Dewey Equils, both of Morehead City, and Baxter Bachman Lisk, Swansboro, all convicted for drunk en driving. For Equils it was his second of fense of drunken driving. Kilgore was also found guilty of reckless driving. The suspensions were as follows; Lewis Avery Hildebrand, Morehead City, for failing to have proper in surance on his car; Eddie Seals Gilden and Stanley Wainwright, both of Morehead City, \vho were found guilty of their second charge of speeding over 55 miles per hour. Southern Railway Representatives Visit County, Study Port Facilities Three representatives of "the Southern Railway visited Carteret over the weekend. They were Ma son King, vice-president in charge of traffic, John Hanzook, secretary to Mr. King, and Joe Marks, as sistant freight traffic manager. The men arrived on a private car Thursday night and were greeted by Dr. John Morris, Mayor Georgs Dill, Jack Holt, state ports manager; Ted Davis, manager of the Chamber of Commerce, and Clyde Jones. The vtsitors were taken on a water tour of the port and viewed nearby land facilities Friday. They were accompanied by C. O. Hol land, state fisheries commissioner, Mr. Jones, Mayor Dill and Mr. Holt. Attn! Meeting That night they attended the Sea Level Chamber of Commerce meeting, went fishing Saturday, were entertained at the W. J. Blair home late Saturday afternoon and were host* at a buffet dinner aboard their private car Saturday night. Attending the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Blair, Dr. and Mrs. B. F. Royal, Dr. and Mrs. John Morris, Judge and Mrs. George McNeill, Mr. and Mrs. George Wal lace, Mr. and Mrs. Holt, and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Roelle of Bucyrus, Ohio. The men went Sunday to Buck Matthews' lpdge and had a fish dinner later in the day at Dr. Royal'f camp. Mr. Holt, Walter Friederichs, as sistant port manager, and D. G. Bell, county legislator, had break fast- with Mr. King, Mr. Hanzook and Mr. Marki aboard the car yea terday morning. Leave for Columbia The three men left lit 12:30 yes terday afternoon for Columbia, s. c. Mr. King said he was impressed with what he saw here and is sure the port has a profitable future. Mr. King's firm is now in the process of taking over the Atlantic and East Carolina Railroad which runs from Goldsboro to Morehead City. SPA to Consider Moving Ports Office at Meeting Edwin Pate of Laurinburg, chair man of the state ports authority, said that at the Charlotte meeting Saturday he expected the authority to vote on the question of moving its headquarters from Wilmington. The ports authority has devel oped port facilities at Wilmington and Morehead City. Agitation for the authority to move its head quarters has come from Morehead City. Chairman Pate said a number of cities have indicated they would like to have the ports headquarters offices if they are moved. Thefts (Continued from Plff 1) The police said that the people who made tilt purchases had don* so in good faith, ha ring no knowl edge that the merchandise had been stolen. They also laid that anyone having anything that Ml sold to them by these boys should turn it over to the police depart ment in U ore head City. , According to police, the boys started their thefts last November following Hurricane Hazel, looting damaged hoihes at Atlantic Beach. From the beach, they turned to Morehead City and ather communi ties.
