then stood together for a final re
view.
Elsie Howard and Jessie Mae
Murdock showed evening dresses
which they are planning to enter
in the Carteret County Fashion
Contest to be held in Belk's Store,
Morehead City.
Elsie's gown was an original de
sign for which she used no pat
tern. The white satin skirt was
covered with four layers of net cut
in various lengths.
Jessie's blue gown was a strap
less design with net ruffles on a
bouffant net skirt.
Peggy Jo Wallace sang Mr.
Wonderful and Iris O'Dean Flem
ming sang Alice Blue Gown accom
panied by Judy Slaughter at the
piano. Glenda Husley served as
the fashion show narrator.
Prizes were awarded on the basis
of the dress which best suited it &
wearer and the grace of the model.
First prize went to Bonnie Dale
Garner, who wore a navy sheath;
second prize to Peggy Anne Can
non, who showed a full-skirted
black print; and third prize, to
Patsy Forrest, who modeled a pink
long-waisted date-time dress.
The awards were presented by
Mrs. Ruby Simmons, home eco
nomics teacher. Judges were Mrs.
Betty Mizelle, Mrs. Dorothy Porter
and Mrs. Thelma Letawa.
About the most exciting news
around here is all the talk about
the dance the juniors sponsored on
April 20 at the gym. There was a
larue crowd at the dance, and 1 J
think the juniors were well pleased *
with the outcome. I guess every !
one is waiting for another dancc, j
and we hope there soon will be
one.
The seniors arc beginning to
work on their commencement ex
ercises. This means school is just
about over. It will be a happy time
for everyone except the seniors.
We are going to miss them next
year and we don't know how we'll
ever manage without them.
To got around to sports, it
doesn't seem as if we are having
too mueh luck with this subject. If
our boys could only do as well in
baseball as they do in basketball,
we could win some games. But I
guess we can't have the best of
everything.
Tuesday night the FFA father i
and son banquet was held at the 1
school lunchroom. I'm sure every
one of the boys and their fathers
enjoyed the banquet. The girls are
really looking forward to their
mother and daughter banquet on
May 12.
Introducing this week from the
freshman class, Judy Slaughter and
Johnny Mason.
Judy is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Slaughter. She was
born July 19. 1941. She is a 5-9
blonde. Her favorite subjects are
English and algebra, her favorite
food is fried chicken.
Judy's favorite pastime is play
ing the piano, and in spite of her
musical talent, she wants to be an
8th grade school teacher. We all
wish Judy much success with her
hope and we pray that her dreams
for the future come true.
Johnny is the son of Dr. and
Mrs. Manly Mason. He is a 15
year-old, 6-1 blond. Johnny was
elected president of the freshman
class the first of the year. He was
one of two boys out of the fresh
man class to make the basketball
team this year.
Johnny's favorite sport is basket
ball (naturally). His favorite food
is fried chicken, and his favorite j
pastime is playing checkers. We
are all very proud of Johnny, and
hope whatever his ambition is, he
reaches it.
