Beaufort Driver Cited Following Sunday Wreck Herbert L. Penny, Beaufort, was charged with following too closely, after a collision at 5:30 p.m. Sun day on Highway 70 two miles west of Morehead City. Penny, driving a 1949 Ford, ran into the rear of a Studebaker pick up truck being driven by Charles Howland of Zebulon. Both cars were headed west. Damage to the pickup was es timated at $100 and damage to the Ford at $150. State Highway Patrolman W. E. Pickard investi gated. Car Smashed In Friday Wreck A IMS Oldsmobile was de molished at 11. 43 p.m. Friday on the Fort Macon Road when it turned over several times The driver, Claude R Johnson. Camp Lejeune Marine, has been charged with careless and reckless driving. He told State Highway Patrol man J. W. Sykes that he fell asleep. The accident occurred about a mile and a half cast of the Atlantic Beach town limits. Johnson was proceeding east. The car left the road on the right, shot back to the left and turned over several times, landing on its wheels. Another Marine with John son escaped injury. The side of Johnson's face u skinned. Mt. Airy, holds three college degrees all without benefit of his 1923 high school diploma. The car ran off the shoulder of the road and turned over several times, landing in the bushes. The car was demolished. Dunn has been charged wi'h careless and reckless driving. President of Organization Locked Out of Meeting Geary, Okla. (AP)? Members of the Geary Business Club waited in vain for their president Glenn Moore to show up. The vice-president took over and conducted the meeting. As the members unlocked the front door to leave, they found their presi dent outside. He said he had been pounding on the door trying to get in but the meeting was in the back room and no one heard him. Oil Rush? Anchorage, Alaska (AP) ? A string of oil lease filings in recent months has raised Alaskans' hopes : that wells may bring a boom to rival the rush once caused by gold. An oil company applying for leases on 90,520 acres of the Kenai Peninsula was the eighth major petroleum firm to indicate interest in Alaska exploration. Pastors Consider Migrant Labor Picture at Meeting County ministers directed, at their meeting yesterday, that the new president, the Rev. M. P. Gar ner, work with local organizations und farmers to provide a spiritual and religious life for migrant work ers in this county. This action was taken following a talk by the Rev. Morton Kurtz, a member of the Governor's Migrant Commission. The ministers met at the civic center, Morehead City. Mr. Kurtz told of the migrant worker in North Carolina and ef forts to better their living condi tions. He said trained workers could be sent to this county If this area woifld cooperate by providing them a place to stay. Other expenses, such as salary and equipment, would not be local responsibility, he said. Frank Nance, farm labor super visor, described the migrant labor picture in this county. Other guests were Mrs. Leota Hammer of the county health department, Miss Georgie Hughes, welfare superin tendent, and H. L. Joalyn, county superintendent of schools. New officers, in addition to Mr. Garner of Davis, who were elected and took office yesterday, were the Boys Picked Up For Beach Thefts Two Morehead City Negro boys 12 and 13 years of age, were ap prehended at 3 p.m. Thursday by George Smith, constable of More head township. The boys were giv en a hearing on theft charges be fore A. H. James, judge of Juve nile court, and have been commit ted to the Morrison Training School. Assisting in apprebenaion of the boys was Patrolman Joe Campbell of the Atlantic Beach police force. According to Conatable Smith, the cottage of lira. Mary Bryan and the Rochelie cottage, occupied by Paul Baker, were entered. Sheriff Hugh Salter aaid the boya would go into homes, while their occupanta were out on the beach, and take money.
