Beam, county veteran! ser vice officer, says that the state's Department of Public Instruction "certificate of high school equivi lency is designed for mature adults who have a vocational objective which requires graduation from high school or its equivalent." Only such persons will be con sidered who cannot for good reason secure a regular high school diplo ma, he said. The Department of Public Instruction will issue a "cer tificate of high school equivalency" upon the following conditions. 1. A satisfactory score on a psychological examination, Such as the American Council on Educa tion Psychological Examination, high school edittcfo; a parsing score on a standardized test in high school English; and a passing score on a standardized test in United States history. 2. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. but no certificate will be awarded prior to date of graduation of the high school class of which applicant was a member 3. Applicant must be a bona fide resident of North Carolina. 4. Applicant must give good evi dence of possessing traits charac teristic of a good citizen. 5. All examinations required will be administered at agencies ap proved for the pin-pose; including University Testing Service, Chapel Hill; Psychological Clinic, N. C. State College, Raleigh; Charlotte College; East Carolina College; Greensboro Evening College; Ashe ville - Biltmore College; Western Carolina College, Cullowhee; New Hanover High School, Wilmington; and Burke County Guidance Ser vice, Morganton. 6. All applications must be made to the State Department of Public Instruction. Further information may be had by contacting Mr. Beam, court house annex, Beaufort.
