Mr. Gilford Cannon is on the sick list. We all hope he'll soon be better. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Collins spent Sunday in New Bern. Mrs. P. D. Smith of Maysville spent a while last week with Mrs. Gilford Cannon. We all hope that Mrs. Kilby Haskett who's on the sick list will soon be better. William Ardell Small. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nelson and| children of Bridgeton visited his mother, Mrs. Emily Nelson, on Sunday. 4-II'ers Organize Mrs. Floy Garner and Mr. Fred Knott met with a group of people from South River and Merrimon last Friday night at the community building and organized a com munity 4-H club. Club Meets The Merrimon Home Demon stration Club met with Mrs. B. G. Hardy on Monday afternoon with nine members present. After devotions minutes and roll call, our president, Mrs. Annie Wallace, gave the demonstration, Vegetable Casseroles. During the social period Mrs. Hardy served cookies and ice cream. Tyson attended the funeral services of Mr. Dave Jar vis at Atlantic Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Lena Fulcher has returned home after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Ful cher of Beaufort. The official board of the Willis ton Methodist Church will meet Friday night at 7:30. A joint meeting of the Methodist Men of Straits, Harkcrs Island, Marshallberg and Williston-Smyr na met at the Straits Church, Fri day night, Feb. 1. After an interesting and inspir ing speech by Mr. E. P. Blair of Vanceboro, refreshments were served in the educational building. Miss Nancy Willis, who is a stu dent at East Carolina College, spent the weekend at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Willis. Highway Commissioner Reports on 1956 Work Maynard Hicks, second division highway commissioner, this week released a report on the work the second division did during 195G. The primary highway system in the division was improved by 26.26 miles of widening, resurfacing and new paving. The county road system through out the division was renovated by 83 miles of paving, 87.03 miles of widening, and 84.72 miles of sta bilization for all-weather driving. In Carteret County 3.8 iniles of county roads were paved by state forces. A total of 3.8 miles of county roads were widened and three bridges were rebuilt. SE& V?
