Methodists Continue Plan
For Area-Wide Survey
The First Methodist Church.
Morehead City, is continuing its
plans for a community religious
survey to begin Jan. 26. 1958. It
will be concluded during that week.
This survey will cover Morehead
City and adjlcenf areas such as
Mitchell Village and Mansfield
Park.
Billy Corey has been elected
general chairman of the program
for First Methodist Church. The
Rev. Sam Moore will conduct the
program for the Franklin Memor
ial Church and the Rev. Harry
Buckingham for the Camp Glenn
church. Each of the churches will
accept responsibility for certain
areas of the city.
It is planned that every family
will be contacted and complete
information will be discovered as
to the affiliation of every person
in the community. This will di
vulge the names and addresses of
all people who do not belong to
local churches.
Information discovered in the
census will be made available to
all the denominations of the city
through the several pastors. One
hundred members of First Meth
odist Church will serve in this
canvass.
The Rev. J. F. Herbert, pastor
of First Methodist Church, is at
tending on Thursday and Friday
of this week the annual Duke Sem
inar conducted at St. Paul's
Church, Goldsboro, by the faculty
of the Divinity School of Duke
University. The Rev. Leon Couch,
former pastor of First Methodist
Church, is the pastor at St. Paul's
Church.
The Rev. Mr. Herbert has stated
that this annual seminar presents
an opportunity for study and fel
lowship for the ministers of the
North Carolina Methodist Confer
ence. A similar seminar is held
esch year in Charlotte for the
Western North Carolina Confer
ence.
% Tbe pastor has announced that
Dr. Frank Crossley Morgan, son
of the ltte Dr. Campbell Morgan,
will return to Morehead City in
the fall of this year for another
Bible Conference, sponsored joint
ly by the First Presbyterian
Church and First Methodist Church
of this city. Doctor Morgan con
ducted such a conference under
the same sponsorship in February
1957 to the great delight and in
spiration of the people of the two
churches involved and many other
Christian people of the community.
Doctor Campbell Morgan, father
of Dr. Crossley Morgan, was in
his day the most noted of all Bible
Conference leaders. The son, born
in London but now a citizen of
North Carolina, is following in the
footsteps of his father as an able
and distinguished Bible Conference
leader and preacher. The date of
his coming will be announced soon.
The annual Christian Workers
School for the Morehead City area
will be held at Ann Street Church,
Beaufort, Feb. 2. The Rev. Ralph
Fleming, pastor of the Newport
