The boiusa lodge opened the meeting and turned it over to the district offi cers. Mrs. Alease Russell of Beaufort, district president, presided. The assembly officers were presented by Mrs. Atha Sidbury of Wilming ton. The address of welcome was given by Mrs. Ruby RoUison of Morehead City and Mrs. Valeria Smith of Beaufort responded. Reports of lodges and Theta Rho Clubs were given and Mrs. Lou Snooks competed in the contest in unwritten work. Loulit, new chairman, pre tided at tbe Garden and Civics Department meeting Wednesday afternoon at the civic center. Mrs. J. R. Gibson a t Swans baro was introduced who in turn intro duced Mrs. Marie Brlte of Jack aonvUle. Mrs. Brite gave an Inter esting demonstration of dried ar rangements, telling ways to attain different dried effects. i She said that dried arrangements are an inexpensive hobby which will give many hours of pleasure to the arranger. Mrs. J. F. Herbert, exhibits chairman, called attention to the tables of floral arrangements sub mitted by club members and out lined tbe exhibits plan for the year. The exhibits were judged by Mrs. Gibson and blue ribbons were awarded Mrs. P. H. Geer and Mrs. F. C. Salisbury. Red ribbons went to Mrs. Geer, Mrs. E. A. Council and Mrs. Herbert. Honorable men tion went to Mrs. Loutit. After introducing the guests Mrs. Loutit outlined projects for the year. Landscaping and beautifica tion of the grounds at Samarcand and the help-a-home project were the most important ones. Mrs. Salisbury asked everyone to be prepared for the UNICEF trick or treat campaign. Mrs. Council, horticulture chairman, gave sug gestions on things to do in the fall and winter for your garden. The annual report of the club was given by Mrs. G. D. Gamble and the club's certificate of honor was passed around to members. A poem, Death of a Mighty Tree, was read by Mrs. D. G. Bell. It was announced that the November meeting would be a dinner meeting Nov. 12 at 6:30. The hostesses served refresh ments of block cake, tea, mints and nuts. Junior Women to Sell 100 Tickets for GS Benefit Only one hundred tickets for the annual Girl Scout bridge benefit sponsored by the Junior Woman's Club are on sale. The tickets are one dollar each and may be gotten from Mrs. Joe Beam, Mra. Bill Plckard, Mrs. Richard Spears or any club member. The club is sponsoring the event to raise money for the Girl Scouts. The benefit will be held Wednes day, Oct. 29, at 1:30 the Blue Ribbon Restaurant. The tallies will be made by the Girl Scouts. Dessert will be served and table prizes, donated by the local merchants, will be awarded. Halloween Masquerade Enjoyed by Youth Group A Halloween maiqueride party was given by the Methodist Youth Fellowship of Camp Glenn Church Saturday night at the home of Miss Linda Lockbart. The den of the Lockhart home was decorated with black and orange crepe paper streamers. A large ghost was placed in one cor ner and other Halloween decora tions were placed around the room. Games were played and dancing to recorded music was enjoyed. Refreshments of sandwiches, po tato chips, pickles, nuts, colas and Halloween candiei were served. Mr. P. H. Geer Jr. was high scorer, Dr. Jerry Norris was sec ond high and Mr. Thomas Noe was low. The hostess served lemon chif fon pie and coffee. During progres sions she served colas and nuts. Dr. and Mrs. Norris will entertain the club next week. Obituary BEN HEATH Ben Heath, 63, of Morehead City, died Saturday night at Morehead City Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the chapel of George W. Dill and Sons by -the Rev. Sel don Bullard, pastor of the First Free Will Baptist Church. Inter ment was in Bayview Cemetery. Surviving are one niece, Mrs. Bonnie Rice of Morehead City; and one half-brother, Fenner Heath of Vanceboro. Department to Meet The Literary and Art Depart ment will meet at S:15 tomorrow night at the civic center.
