"Too many (ministers) eat a lot to please the people who invite them into their homes," Dr. Otis Warr said. mj n. mm. vnc.no 8*11 Caourvatlmbt Mack tlmr ?pd many ideas are involved in developing a complete conservation farm plan, according to Mr. Roy Keller of Bettje. He has been improving his farm for a long time, but he feels there U still development work to be done on It. The Soil Conservation Service, working through the Lower Neuse Soil Conservation District, assisted Mr. Keller In developing a con servation farm plan. As is the case on many farms in the county, tidewater from storm tides was one of Mr. Keller's major problems. Salt water some times flooded low places in his fields. He decided to install tide gates in his two outlet ditches to help solve this problem. A tidegate is a device which al lows the ditch water to flow out, but has a swinging flapgate which prevents tidewater from entering the field. With an SCS engineer's assist ance, he installed a 24-inch gate and an 11-inch gate. Over and around these a concrete headwall and dike was constructed. Mr. Keller said the tidegates work very well. He feels .they have been a sound and profitable in vestment. He gave a word of cau tion, however, be sure to construct a very secure and adequate head wall. One of his partially washed out during one of the hurritanes. Properly installed and main tained, a tidegate will last many years. DRESSED AND DELIVERED Op?n 24 Hours Just Call ?
