The Rev. J. F. Herbert To Retire Next Month The Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Eastern North Carolina, will be held in Grace Methodist Church, Wilmington be ginning June 22 The Rev J. F. Herbert, paitor of First Methodist Church, Morehead City, has an nounced that he will retire at the dose of the annual conference, due to his health. The Herberts will make their home in Chapel Hill. Mr. Herbert has returned to the services of the church after an absence of six months. Mr. Her bert is not preaching yet though he says he believM that will be possible soon. He expects to conduct both the morning and night services the coming Sunday, May 17, but has visiting ministers to preach at both services. At the morning service the ser mon will be preached by the. Rev. Chester D. Brown, pastor of First Methodist Church, Havelock. Mr. Brown, native of High Point, is one of the gifted younger men of the North Carolina Methodist Con ference. His wife was Miss Ca therine Marshburn of Moore Coun ty. They have one child, Andrew Brown, age 3. Mr. Brown has served Methodist charges at Glendon; Branson Me morial Church, Durham, and is now in his first year as minister at First Church, Havelock. He is a graduate of High Point College, and the School of Religion of Duke University. At both institrtfcns he was an outstanding student. The Rev. Edward Sharp, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Beaufort, will preach at the eve ning service at 7:30 Mr. Sharp is a native of Harrellsville, N. C. He attended the University of North Carolina far two yun fee! ore en teriag the aaavice. Upon return from military ser viaa he attaodad aad graduated at Wake Fareat Collage. Further schooling included the Yale Divin ity School from which he is a graduate, and a further period of graduate study at the Virginia Episcopal Theological Seminary at Alexandria. Mr. Sharp married Miaa Virginia Perktaa of Oreen ville. The First Methodist Church and their pastor welcome these two gifted young ministers of Christ. Last Sunday morning the Rev. Pat Conner of this city, now a stu dent at High Point College, as sisted the pastor with the service of Communion. Mr. Conner gave the communion addr.-ss using the subject: Mothers' Day Communion. First Methodist Church is very proud of Pat Conner, its own local preacher. At the evening servioe, Camp Farthest Out. now holding its annual retreat at the Morehead Biltmore, was in charge of the aer vicc. Rev. Mr. Grubb, an English minister, preached the sermon.
