Presbyterian Church Elects Four Deacons Mr. M. F. Beaver, Mr James CVwby, Mr. Robert Meadows and Mr. Hugh Porter were elected dea cons of the Presbyterian C hurch Sunday. They will hold o/fice until *S62. The diaconate, session and circle chairmen will hold a joint meeting next Monday evening at S o'clock to hear a team from the Presby tery's stewardship committee. Mr. Kirby and J. C. Harvell form one of these teams and will be visiting four churches in connection with the program. The church will hold a worker's conference on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. Sund*>- night programs will be gin Sunday, Oct. 4. Classes will be held for nursery, kindergarten and primary pupils, and the junior choir will be resumed. Mr. Lenwood Lee will conduct an adult's class and Mr. Kirby will teach a course for prospective teachers. Barney Davidson of First, Methodist Church, Morehead City, will lead the workshop on finance There will be a discussion group for members of the committee on christian vocations led by the Rev. John Cline of the host church. The opening session will be a period of devotion in the sanctuary of the church; subsequent sessions will be held in the N. F. Eurc educational building. This county wide workshop is one of five to be held in the New Bern District and will be presided over by Dr. A. J. Hobbs, district superintendent. County Experiences Two-Hour Outtage Power was out in all of Carteret County from 4:35 a.m. to 6:23 a.m. yesterday. George Stovall, man ager of Carolina Power and Light Co., said that a burned-out trans former in Jacksonville was the root of the trouble. The 110.000 - volt transformer, which steps the current down to 12,000 volts, was located in the Jacksonville substation. When it j burned out it knocked out the trans mission feeder line, causing a pow er ovttage. Mr. Stovall said that in addition to Carteret. Jacksonville, New Rem and Craven County were probably affected by the outtage. Morehead FHA'ers Lay Groundwork for Activities The executive committee of the Future Homemakers of America. Morehead City chapter, met Wed nesday and laid the groundwork for this year's chapter activities. It was decided to hold a one-day initiation for new members; the requirements to be administered by the sophomore girls. Plans for attending the district rally in Kinston were discussed. Several money-making projects Were sub mitted and will be decided on at the first chapter meeting. The programs for club meetings from September through May were chosen at a previous meeting and ! plans for these are now being car ried out. It was announced that any girl who wishes to join the FHA must have had one year of Home Econ omics or be enrolled in the Home Economics course this year. Dues! are 75 cents per year and must be paid by Oct. 31.
