Bridge Club Meets
Mrs. W. H. Bell was hostess to
the bridge club Friday evening

Colas and nuts were served dur
ing the game and later the hostess
served ambrosia, pound cake and

Circles of WSCS Meet
The Susannah Wesley circle met
with Mrs. Leroy Trower on Mon
day evening with eleven present.
The program on Epiphany, or
the Twelfth Day, was given by
Mrs. Frank Lawrence.
During the business session it
was decided that at least twoi
members would attend the Wednes- j
day evening prayer service which \
meets In the homes of shutins. It1
was also decided that a group
would visit the patients in the 1
Neuse Forest Nursing Home on
Sunday afternoon.

was given by Mrs. John Lilly. A
routine business session followed.
The hosteas served grape-nut pie
topped with whipped cream, and
coffee.
Mrs. StancH Bell is chairman of
this circle. They did a wonderful
job Christmas in preparing Christ
mas dinner for a family of five.
On the Sunday afternoon preced
ing Christmas they went in groups
to visit the shut-ins, leaving a gift
for each one.
The Bessie ilerrington circle met
with Mrs. W. H. Bell on Tuesday
evening. Ten members were pres
ent.
Mrs. W. D. Heath Jr. led the pro
gram using Epiphany, or Twelfth
Night, as her theme. Mrs. Dewey
Phipps, Mrs. Edgar Hibbs and
Mrs. Bell assisted her.
During the business session a
barbecue supper and bake sale
was planned for Jan. 30, the pro
ceeds to be used for white altar
scarves.
The hostess served delicious
chocolate fudge pecan pie topped
with whipped cream, and coffee

to the Mary C. Millis circle Tues
day evening.

and mother of Mrs. Ralph Flem

program on Epiphany, or the
Twelfth Day. A routine business
session followed, then plans were
discussed for the beginning of a
Nativity scene to be used on the
grounds of the St. James Church.
A committee was appointed to ob
tain information before presenting
it to other interested groups.
The hostess served strawberry
shortcake and coffee.
The Gertie Howard circle met at
the home of Mrs. Sam Edwards
with thirteen members present.
Mrs. James S. Adams, chairman,
presided.
The program was given by Mrs.
Carlton Garner, the meditation en
titled "God's Gift " Letters from
missionaries serving in Southern
Rhodesia were read by Mrs. Otis
Edwards and Mrs. Carlton Garner.
The hymns Living For Jesus and
I Would Be True were sung by the
group.
Mrs. James Adams gave a most
interesting talk on Christmas cus
toms in Scotland, her native land
The ne'.v year begins with every
home having been thoroughly
cleaned inside and out, streets and
sidewalks scrubbed. Debts are
paid and life begins anew.
Routine business was transacted,
reports were read, and the mission
study on Africa discussed. The
Spiritual Life thought and closing
prayer were given by Mrs. Sam
Edwards.
Refreshments of fruit jello, ice
cream, nuts, cookies and ginger
ale were served by the hostess.
