Dr. and Mrs. Theodore Salter attended the Atlantic Coast Con ference basketball tournament at Raleigh over the weekend. Miss Beverly Willis has returned to Morganton, where she attends school, after spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. El mer Willis of Williston. Tommy Jones, u student at North Carolina State Coll ge in Raleigh, spent the weekend at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jones. Mrs. Jerry Darling left Sunday for Whiteville, where she is visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gillikin. Mrs. Gillikin underwent an emer gency appendectomy last Wednes day at the Whiteville hospital. Mr. and Mrs Comer Griffin and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gay of Wilming ton were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Piner of Williston. Miss Jackie Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norwood Young, spent the weekend at home from Obituaries KEITHLY WILLIS Keithly Willis, 61, Morehead City, died at Morehead City hospital Sat urday morning. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Methodist Church by the Rev. Samuel S. ; Moore, pastor. Interment was in j Bayview cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Ann Arthur Willis; a son, Ernest Edward Willis; two daugh ters, Mrs. Charles Howe and Mrs. Leinster Lewis; two brothers, Roma Willis and George Willis, all of Morehead City, and two grand- 1 children. INFANT AVERY Mr. and Mrs. Norman Avery Jr., of route 1 Morehead City, announce the birth and death of a son Sun day at Morehead City hospital. Graveside services were conduct ed at Bayview cemetery yesterday morning by the Rev. Jesse T. Fish er, pastor of Salter Path Methodist Church. Mrs. Avery is the former Coretta Guthrie of Salter Path. Survivors other than the parents were not known by the funeral directors. MRS. CLEVELAND DANIELS Mrs. Cleveland Daniels of Cedar Island died at her home Saturday evening. Band and Glee Club Will Give Musical Program The Beaufort school band and the high school glee club will give a musical program at the Beau fort PTA meeting tonight at 7:30. The meeting will be held in the school auditorium. Carlton Rose, president of the PTA, will conduct the business meeting. He invites members and persons interested in hearing the music to attend. The band and glee club are directed by Charles B. Jones. Ctab to Meet Beaufort Garden club will meet Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Scout building. Mrs. Noah Avery will conduct a workshop on landscap ing for the home. Board (Continued from Page 1) then carry through on the usual procedure used for citizens who re fuse to pay taxes. The board approved return of land to John R Jones. Jones had given property at Cedar Point to the Cedar Point Community club, but the land had to first be deeded to the county. The club later de cided to put up iti building else where. Mr. Jones said he would like to have the deed back because he had a buyer for the land. The county approved but sug gested that Mr. Jones present a letter from the community club, stating that they don't want the land. Mr. Howard reported that resi dents in the section along highway 24 are disturbed about use of land in that area as a garbage dump He said the garbage would be haul ed there from Atlantic Beach. The matter waa referred to the county health board. Commissioners were Invited by letter to attend an eastern North Carolina Development conference March SI at Goldahoro. A letter was also read from Rep. Graham A. Barden. thanking the board for its letter to him following an nouncement of his Intended retire ment. Mr. Merrill was requested to write Army engineers requesting that Wainwright channel be deep ened and straightened. The com missioners drew names of Jttrors for the April 4 term of criminal court. Commissioners will meet again next Monday, March 14, at 10 a m. as a board of equalization. They will hear requests for adjustment 1 in property valuation. Officials Inspect Newport River Tuesday State water resources officials, Army engineers and Moses How ard. chairman of the county board : of commissioners, toured Newport river by boat Tuesday. The inspection was requested by county commissioners who are concerned about flooding of the river, due to drainage problems. Sixty-seven Newport men gather ed at the dock at Lonnie Howard's as the inspection team started its trip down the river. The Lifeliners of the Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted a pa triotic service at the church Satur day night 7:30 p.m. A nice group attended and enjoyed the program very much. Everyone is happy to know that Master Luther Daniel Yeomans Jr has been discharged from the James Walker hospital, Wilming ton, and is much better. Mr. Luther Yeomans Sr. is re ceiving treatment at the S*?a Level Community Hospital. We all hope he soon recovers.
