Obituaries
PRESTON L. MASON
The funeral service for Preston
L. Mason. 43. Beaufort, will be
conducted tomorrow in St. Paul's
Episcopal church. Time of the
funeral had not been set yester
day, pending arrival of relatives.
Mr. Mason was found by his bro
ther, John, at 7 o'clock Sunday
morning in his car on Marsh Street
near Cole's Grocery. The car was
headed north. Coroner David Mun
den said that Mr. Mason was evi
dently the victim of a heart at
tack.
The car had been pulled to the
side of the road. Headlights and
the ignition were on and the car
was in gear. The coroner surmises
that Mr Mason became ill and
managed to get the car to the side
of the road. He was slumped on
the seat slightly to the right of the
steering wheel.
He made his home with his bro
ther John, and Mrs. Mason in
Highland Park. When he didn't
come home Saturday night, Mr.
John went out to look for him.
Coroner Munden was called at 7:45
a.m.
Officiating at the funeral service
will be the Rev. C. Edward Sharp,
rector of St. Paul's Episcopal
church. Burial will be in Ocean
view cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his bro
ther, John, are two other brothers,
Marcus and Steve Mason, both of
Beaufort; three sisters, Mrs. Ben
Robinson and Mrs. Price Johnson |
of Beaufort and Mrs. Harry Willis
of Morehead City.

Thomas Budd Graduates
From Farragut Academy
Cadet Ensign Thomas W. Budd,
son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Budd,
Atlantic, was graduated last week
from Admiral Farragut Academy,
St. Petersburg, Fla. He plans to
enter the United States Merchant
Marine Academy this fall.
In his first yeat at Farragut, he
was selected as the best drilled
new cadet. In intramural athlet

ics, he was a member of the soft
ball, baseball, basketball, and foot
ball teams. He was also a mem
ber of the varsity baseball and
basketball teams.
He was secretary of his class
and a member of the Cotillion club.
He was a member of the academy
drill team, an excellent seaman,
swimmer, and qualified boat han
dler, according to J. M. Vander
ford, commander of the academy.
VFW Auxiliary Extends
Sale of Paper Napkins
The Woman's Auxiliary to Jones
Austin VFW post has extended its
paper napkin sale until the next
meeting, July 14. The decision to
extend the sale was made when
the auxiliary met Thursday night
at the home of Mrs. Cecil Peter
son.
The napkins are printed with a
religious motto and sell for 50 cents
per package. They may be ob
tained from any member of the
auxiliary. Several members turn
ed in their money at the meeting
and the remainder of thq money
will be turned in when the sale
ends.
Members were asked to notify
Mrs. Vance Fulford Jr., chairman
of the cards and flowers commit
tee, if they know of anyone who
is ill or has a death in their fam
ily.
In an effort to cut down florist
bills it was decided that flowers
will be sent only to auxiliary mem
bers in time of bereavement.
Cards will be sent post members
and others.
Adopted at the meeting was a
set of rules and by-laws. It was
announced that the next meeting
will be held at the post home. Mrs.
Ervin Lupton and Mrs. H. W. Pe
terson will be on the refreshments

At Shower Thursday
Miss Jill Williams was honored
at a kitchen shower Thursday eve
ning, given by Mrs. Mary Murphy
at her home. Miss Williams will
marry Charles Smith June 21.
Upon arrival the honoree was

Dickinson had dinner Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dickinson and

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Dickinson
had a big birthday dinner in honor
of her mother, Mrs. Robert Den
nis Sunday. There was a large
crowd to attend and everyone had
a good time.
Mrs. C. T. Sanderson and daugh
ter visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Leslie Norris, last week.

Murphy of Richmond, Va., were
called here last week due to the
illness and death of his sister, Mrs.
Mary L. Davis.
Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Medlin of
Aberdeen spent a few days with
her sister, Mrs. Joe Una, before
going abroad. They will tour sev
eral countries, leaving New York
June 8th.
Mrs. Pearl Davis of Beaufort,
formerly of Davis, underwent sur
gery last week at Sea Level hos
pital. We all wish for her a speedy
recovery.

Mr. Joe Carroll Lina and his
fiancee, Miss Janet Judkins of

home from the Marine hospital in
Norfolk, Va., where he received
treatments.
