16 Players to All-Star Roster
The 1%0 Morehead City Little <
League All Star team has been an
noiinced by league officials.
The Idle Hour, front runners in
the first half of the season, and the
Moose, second half pace setter,
each landed four regulars and one
alternate on the 16-player squad.
Idle Hour players named were
John Lee. Tommy Briscoe, Gary
Garner and Morty West. Lonnie
Pittnian was the Idle Hour alter
nate The four players furnished
by the Moose were Garland Thomp
son, Phillip Moran, Kenny Lewis
and Mike Moran. Moose Mike Sal
ter was named as an alternate.
Rounding out the All-Star selec
tions were Wilkie Nunn, Buff
Chalk. Tom Dixon and Ronnie Mi
zesko of the Elks and Rudy Lucas
and Dan Clapsadl of the Small
Frys
Elk manager Bernard Leary will
pilot this year's All-Star team and
will be assisted by Bill Styron of
the Idle Hour.
The All-Stars meet Beaufort in
the second round of the district
playoffs at Tarboro Tuesday morn
ing. July 25. at 11
The team and their managers
will leave Morehead City Monday
morning, July 25, and will be
housed in facilities furnished by the
Tarboro Little League.

In Morehead City Little League
play this week a bases loaded walk
to Vance Moore forced in the tie
breaking run Thursday to give the
Elks a 3 2 win over the Moose.
Both teams scored twice in the
first inning and then Elk pitcher
Ronnie Mizesko and Moose hurler
Ronnie Zubovic dueled on equal
terms until the sixth when Zubovic
issued the game winning walk to
Moore.
Aaotber exciting feel was staged
on Friday and saw the Idle Hour
edging the Small Frys 6-5 in seven
innings.
Tommy Freeman scampered
home with the winning Idle Hour
run on a wild pitch by the Small
Fry hurler.
The Idle Hour had come from
behind to score two runs in their
half of the sixth to send the game
into extra innings.
Tommy Slaughter gave the Small
Frys an early lead with two home
runs. His homers, each of which
came with a man on base, were hit
in the first and third innings.

Register Triumphs
This week's action in thi More
head City Little League saw the
Moose and Small Frys score close
wins. On Tuesday the Moose turn
ed in a 4-1 win over the Idle Hour
behind the two-bit pitching of
righthander Garland Thompson and
on Wednesday the Small Frys went
extra innings to outlast the Elks
3-2.
In Tuesday's game the only Idle
Hour run was unearned, coming
on two Moose errors in the first
inning. The Moose scored a pair
of runs in the first inning and add
ed single t altos in the fourth and
fifth frame*.
Wednesday's game saw Elk
pitcher John Chalk walk in the win
ning run as he issued a bases-load
ed free pass to James Stafford in
the seventh inning.
The winning pitcher in the game
was Rudy Lucas who came on in
relief of Danny Clapsadl in the final
frame. Chalk, in relict of Wilkie
Nunn. took the km.

Blessed with calm waters and a
sun gently shaded by clouds, the
Carteret Outboard Runaboat asso
ciation presented a ski show Sat
urday morning as part of Beau
fort's 251st anniversary celebra
tion.
Hugh Midgett, outstanding skiier
from Oriental, Pamlico county, ar
rived unexpectedly and demon
strated his barefoot skiing act Md
stood on his head on a saucer. ^
Bob Butler stood on a chair be
ing pulled on a saucer. He and
his wife, Dicie, teamed in another
act. Mrs. Butler rode on his shoul
ders and did a back bend.
I Butch Hassell, Douglas Piner and
David Jones demonstrated toe-hold
skiing.
The show opened with Marian
Davis, Nell Davis, Nancy Mason,
Darlene Bell and Dicie Butler car
rying Cobra pennants. Appearing
in the children's ski acts were
Mike Butler, Danny Davis, Ted
Salter and Sally Davis.
Cross over was demonstrated by
Fred Davis Jr. and Lee Bell. Five
skiiers in arrowhead formation
were Lilly Herbert, Lois Jean Pi
gott, Donna Hudnall, David Jones
and Douglas Piner.
Slalom skiiers were Eddie Lan
caster and Hugh Midgett. On shoe
skiis were Tom Adams, Billy Ball
and Chuck Hall. The turnabout act
was itaged by Hugh Midgett and
George Phillips.
The arm carry was demon
strated by Tom Adams and Nancy
Mason. Running the slalom ski
course were David Jones, Logan
Whitehurst. Butch Hassell, Mahlon
Williams, Ray Hassell, Douglas
Piner, and Eddie Lancaster.
CHffw-4 Faglle gave the ski sa
lute (riding one ski while lifting
the other), skiiag backwards was
Tom Adams. The show ended with
I pyramid, Bob Butler riding the
shoulders of Chuck Hall and Cal
Dtzern.
Skiiers were pulled by Tull Wil
liams, BiHy Ball. George Herbert,
Tom Adams. Fred Davis, Cal Dei
ern, Bob Butler, Cliff Faglie, Roger
Hoggard, and Wilson Davis.
The Ceaat Gaard patrolled the
area to keep boats not in the show
out of the creek.

Go-Karf Drivers
George Courtney continued as the
top driver at the Atlantic Beach
Go-Kart track this week as he fin
ished first in three races and sec
ond or third in four others in races
Saturday and Monday nights at the
track.
Pointwise, Courtney leads all
drivers with a total of 240 points.
His showing this week places him
well ahead of Raymond Hardy,
who is in second place with a total
of 185 points. Raymond Jordan has
155 paints.

Get First Wins
The two previously winless teams
in the Newport summer basketball
league Tuesday night provided the
most thrilling games of the season
as they both turned in exciting one
point wins.
In the first game the Warriors of
the midget division got two field
goals from sub David Barnes in an
overtime period to give the War
riors a 14-10 win over the Rebels.
In t he second game the Hawks
came through with their first vic
tory as they edged the Celtics
21 20. Kenny Mann of the Hawks
was fouled as the game ended and
he dropped in the free throw after
the final whistle for the win. Ken
Mann led the scoring for the win
ners with eight points, but high
scoring honors for the game went
to David Garner of the Celtics who
tallied 10 points.

Three of Friday's Races
Logan Whitehurst. Beaufort,
earned the unofficial title, "King
of the Cut," in Friday afternoon's
boat races at Beaufort by coming
in first in all three races he enter
ed. He was the only repeat win
ner. Whitehurst's sleek 14-foot
boat is powered with a 45 hp motor.
In the first race, 14-footers, he
came in first, followed by Wayne
Blanchard and Chuck Hall, in that
order.
The races started and ended in
front of the postoffice dock. The
course continued to Barbour's
(west of the starting point), and
return. The weather was ideal.
Winners of the second race, 14
footers powered with 35 hp motors,
were Fred Davis, first; Russ
Struck, second, and Clifford Faglie,

Third rice: 14-footers with mo
tors of varying power: Jim Lewis,
first; George Lawrence, second,
and Gus Farlowe, who had motor
trouble and dropped out.
Fourth race: boats 14 to W feet,
varying horsepower ? Cal Dezern,
first; Gray Hassell, second, and
Bob Butler, third.
Fifth race: 14-footers, White
hurst with a 45 horse power motor
and K^n Lutz with ?0, Whitehurst,
first, and Lutz, second.
Sixth race: 14-foot boat with It
hp and 12-foot with 18 hp, won by
Blackie Willis in the 14-footer. with
Donnie Dudley second.
Seven tli race: 14-footers with
