MORROW Theatre Manager From the Terrace, produced and directed by Mark Robson, from John O’Hara’s best selling novel and starring Paul Newman, and Joanne Woodward, with Ina Balin and Myrna Loy, opens today at the Morehead theatre. As a study in depth of the con flict and interplay of human emo tions, O'Hara’s monumental liter-' ary work becomes one of the most important pictures to reach the screen in 1960. The film is a noteworthy and commendable performance on til counts. Paul Newman and JoanfjC Woodward, the star-studded hus band-wife team turn in a magnifi cent job as the ill-fated married couple in the film. Ina Balin, a relative newcomer to the screen, is featured as the third leg of the romantic triangle. Myrna Loy is excellent as Newman’s dipsoma niac mother. Robson's screen version of From the Terrace tells a significant seg ment of the O’Hara novel. It takes the central character Alfred Eaton (Paul Newman) from the time of his return home from the war, through the storm of his marriage to Mary St. John (Joanns Wood ward), to hjs promising career as a young Wall Street financier, and to his eventual dramatic renunci ation of all his worldly assets in a “for love olr money” decision to leave his Wife and go away to eb during love with Natalie Bentinger (Ina Ball)#). the setting for Alfred’s unhappi ness is seen in the home of his Loy). Upon returning from the war, he finds his mother a hope less drunk and his father bent on taking him into his steel mill. He declines the offer and goes into the aircraft business with a school and Army chum, Lex Por ter (George Grizzard). Then be gins Alfred Eaton’s long and ardu ous search for true love. Filmed in beautiful Cinemascope and technicolor, The Crowded Sky, starring Dana Andrews and Rhonda Fleming, starts Sunday at the City theatre. Watch for the picture which will be the surprise picture of the year. It’s Burt Lancaster-Jean Simmons in Elmer Gantry. It will be in Morehead City soon.
