Mr. and Mrs. Newman Lewis of Willard spent the weekend with ' Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Lewis. When the Lewises returned home Sun day, Mrs. Hattie Parkin went with them. Mrs. Jack Parkin, who had been visiting the Lewises, return ed to Beaufort with them. Mrs. Dick Dickinson and family are spending several weeks in Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Lewis have returned to Port Monmouth, N. J. after a bridf visit here. Jackie Wheatley has returned to Durham, where he entered the Ten Members Take Part In Program at Meeting Ten members took part in a skit, Purpose of the WSCS and , Wesleyan Service Guild, which was the program at the Ann Neal circle meeting Monday morning at the l home of Mrs. Albert Chappell. Mrs. F. R. Bell was in charge of the program, which showed the work of the two Methodist women’s j organizations. Mrs. Dan Sadler, circle chair j man, conducted the meeting and | gave the devotions. Mrs. L. W. ! Moore, treasurer, gave a brief | summary of the circle’s work dur ing the past year. The circle voted to donate two robes to the church Choir. The hostess and Mrs. James R. Wheatley, co-hostess, served colas and assorted cookies to sixteen Members. Mrs. George Huntley fr. will be the next hostess. Miss Goodwin Sails On Guise to Bermuda Miss Janis Goodwin of Atlantic and Washington, D. C., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Goodwin of Atlantic, left Washington Satur day aboard the SS Evangeline for a cruise to Bermuda. ©Aboard the Evangeline Miss Goodwin has as her cabinmate Miss Martha Parham Of Hender son and Washington. A graduate of Atlantic high i school, Miss Goodwin attended Louisburg college and Strayers Business college in Washington. She is employed as a legal secre tary by the Department of the In terior. Wes*ley«n Service Guild Discusses Coming Sale The Wesleyan Service Guild -of Ann Street Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Edward Nel son Monday night with Mrs. Odell Merrill, president, presiding. The devotions were given by Mrs. Orville Gasktll. A summary of last year’s work was followed by a discussion of projects for this winter. The harvest sale, to be held Nov. 16, was outlined and detailed as signments were made. At the sale there will be a turkey dinner as well as a sale of cakes, candies and preserves. There will be a supply of handwork and other items appropriate for gifts. At the conclusion of the business, the hostesses, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. George • Willis and Miss Susan Rumley served drinks, cookies and nuts. Mrs. Moore Entertains Tuesday Afternoon Club Mrs.* t; *W. Beaufort School Gains Teacher Due to Increase m Enrollment Mr. Albert Gainey, Beaufort school principal, announced Tues day night at the PTA meeting that the errroflment of fhe school had increased so that the 45th teacher. 0 public school music teacher, had been engaged. He said that grades one through eight will, now have piiblic school music under the su pervision of Mrs. Dora Staton Clontz of Morehead City. Mr. ftniney announced that -he is still trying to find a band -direc tor to fill the vacancy left by Mr Charles B. Jones, who left to take 6 teaching position in Forsyth County. Mrs. 1,. J. Klein, president, pre sided dt fhe meeting, the first of the year. Mr. Reginald Adams, treasurer, reported a balance of $491.04 in the bank. Mrs. Klein introduced the mem bers of her board. They are Mrs. David Taylor, chairman of the pro gram committee; Mrs. Lyle Pasi heau, membership chairman; Mrs. Leonard Safrit, hospitality chair man. The president announced that state dues of the PTA had been raised 10 cents, but that rather than raise the local dues, the extra money would be taken from the treasury. Obituaries JOHN II. NEAL John Hughes (Jack) Neal, 54, of Beaufort died Wednesday at More head City hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. yesterday in Ann Street Methodist church by the Rev. John Cline, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Edward Sharp, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church. Burial was in Bayview cemetery, Morehead City. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anne McIntyre Neal; two sons, John M. and Wade M. Neal of the home; one daughter, Sara Hughes Neal of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Cecil Truitt of New Orleans, La., Mrs. T. E. Kelly of Beaufort, Miss Georgia W. Neal of Morehead City, and one brother, Wade M. Neal of Morehead City. CLYDE F. LONGFST Clyde Floyd Longest, 48, of More head City died Sunday night at Veterans hospital, Fayetteville. Funeral services were condtjlt ed at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Bell-Munden funeral chapel by the Rev. Seldon Bullard, pastor of First Free Will Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. Corbin Coop dr, pastor of First Baptist church. Burial was in Bayview cemetery. Surviving are his parents, Mr. (Aid Mrs. Everett Longest of More head City; one sister, Mrs. Wood row Fodrie of Beaufort; one neph ew and two nieces. DONNX EUBANKS Donna Eubanks, one-day-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lee Eubanks of Morehead City, died Monday at Morehead City hospital. Craveside services were conducted Tuesday morning at Bayview cemetery by the Rev. Seldon Bullard, pastor of First Free Will Baptist church. Surviving, in addition to the par ents, are two brothers, Michael Lee and Daniel Lee. SBA Opens In Courthouse Mayor W. H. Rotter, Beaufort, announced Wednesday that the Small Business Administration will open an office today in the Court house, Beaufort. The Office will he open each Friday until all ap plications for loans are received. Because of its location on the Water, Beaufort’s business section received more serious damage than any other business section in the county. She also announced that the county school board would put up a drinking fountain near the ball park to permit the children play ing there to have a drink without having to go back to the school building. Mrs. Albert Chappell asked abolit clearing broken glass from the grounds since a serious accident occurred recently. Mr. Gainey said that the grounds are cleaned daily. I Mr. George Herbert rfrthotihced' that Hancock Park residents had built a bridge on the approach to the school as a safety measure. He said that the 'right Of way had been given by a Hancock Park resident and asked that (he chil-’ dren be reminded not to park their bikes on the 'property. He ‘sug gested that a marl path be made there and said the Park residents would donate time to put the marl down if it could be gotten. Mrs. Klein said she would ap point a committee to find out about the marl and would have a report at the October meeting. Mr. Gainey introduced the new teachers and recognized other members of the faculty.
