Judge Fines His Wife On Twe Parking Counts Des Moines, Iowa (AP)—Munici pal Judge Luther T. Glanton Jr. fined his wife $20 for two overtime parking tickets and said: “I hate to do this because it probably will come out of my own pocket.” Mrs. Glanton, an attorney, said she had not been in her office for eight weeks and had not received the notices. With the Armed Forces Newport Recruit Assigned To Fort Jackson, S. C. Fort Jackson, S. C. — Recruit Timothy L. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward D. Jones of route 1, Newport, has been assigned to Company B, 7th Battalion, 2nd Training regiment at Fort Jackson, S. C., for eight weeks of basic combat training. He enlisted in the regular Army at Richmond, Va. He will be taught rifle marks manship under the Army’s Train fire program which enables the modern soldier to become a better rifleman in less time than previous methods. In this program, most of his training consists of firing his rifle at pop-up targets at vari ous unknown distances on terrain which duplicates combat areas. Other highlights of intensive training include squad tactics, bay onet and hand-to-hand combat, and crawling the infiltration course while actual machine gun fire is popping overhead. Many of his instructors are combat veterans of World War II and the Korean War. As a climax to this first phase of training, he will march with his battalion in a review before the commanding general of Fort Jack son. This ceremony is witnessed li Grand Lake, Colo.
