Phone THE NEWS-TIMES PA $-4175. Dec. 21—Mr. Henry Garrish of Goldsboro visited Mr. and Mrs. Will Dail last Friday night. The official board met last week with a large attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beachem Sr. are visiting their daughters, Mrs. Lucy Gilgo and Mrs. Evelyn Bark er, and their families in Oriental. Mrs. Reginald Garner and daugh ters of Newport visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill, last week. The Methodist men’s club met at the church last week. The members of the WSCS met at the home of Mrs. Clifton Arthur for our annual Christmas get to gether. At that time we bring , gifts for the sick and shut-in. We played games, after which the host ess served pie and coffee. Mrs. Letha Moore of Morehead City visited Mrs. Lutie Collins last Sunday. A large number from our church attended open house at Core Creek last Sunday. It was given by the minister, the Rev. Leonard Mayo, and wife for the members of all four churches. Refreshments of nutsr-cookies, soft drinks and cof fee were served. The Christmas tree and play will be given at our church on Fri day night. Hope all will be able to attend. The Rev. Leonard Mayo filled his regular appointment at our church Sunday night. The WSCS met last Monday night at the church with fifteen members present. Mrs. Clifton ■ Arthur gave the program, assisted by several members. The presi dent, Mrs. Mary Hill, gave the de votional. The business meeting followed. There were many things to discuss in connection with Christmas. The meeting was closed with prayer by president. . - Mrs. Luiie Collins leaves Friday afternoon for Rochi Uo, Md., to spend the Christmas hc/idays with her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Moore, ~ and family. Dec. 21—Mr. and Mrs. Preston Taylor and children of Harlowe visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Becton, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Atkins of Wilmington and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sterlen and daughter of Beaufort were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Becton. Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Becton spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Gaskins, at route 5 New Bern. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lyle of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Young of Marion, S. C., spent Sunday with Mrs. W. L. Harris and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Harris Jr.' I Mrs. Young and Mrs. Lyle are sisters of Mrs. W. L. Harris Sr. Denard Harris, a student at East Carolina college, is at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Harris, for the Christmas holidays. Jimmy Smith of Fork Union Military academy in Virginia is i spending the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Smith Jr. Ricky Thomas, a student at the military academy in Milledgeville, Ga-, is spending the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Wren Lawrence of Newport were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Becton Sunday. Mrs. E. L. Becton and Mrs. Adrian Becton spent Monday in New Bern. Dec. 21—The pastor, the Rev. John Grimsley, will fill his appoint ment here Sunday. Service at 10 o’clock, Sunday school at 11 o’ clock. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Pittman Sr. from Oriental spent last week here with her sister, Mrs. Nannie Jane Pittman. .Chief and Mrs. Harry Hardy and family from Beaufort RFD visited in the community Sunday. Mrs. Tom Carraway from Mer rimon visited Mrs. Bill Pittman last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lupton from Morehead City were the guests of her sister, Mrs. George Hardy, Sunday. Mr. Randy Hardy and Mr. Eli jah Dixon Jr., who have enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard, are home on leave to spend Christmas and the holidays with their parents and friends. A large group of Horae Demon stration women and their husbands attended their Christmas party at the Merrimon community building Saturday night. Our home agent, Mrs. Floy Garper, and Mrs. Jo McCabe visited with us. Mrs. McCaoe brought her organ. She played and we all sang Christ mas carols. Mr. and Mrs. Wren Lawrence also attended and Mrs. Lawrence brought us the Christ mas program, Why Jesus Came. Mrs. Emma Bright of Merrit, Pamlico county, visited her sister, Mrs. Annie' Wallace, last week. The Women’s Auxiliary met Monday night with Mrs. William Cannon -with ten members present, after the business session ChrisF mas gifts were exchanged. A so cial hour followed. The hostess served delicious pinoapple upside down cake.
