A very interesting pro gram was given on Easter. The “ed ucational va cati on” for hundreds of Tar Heel farm people will he held July 29 1 through August 2 this year. It was the unanimous I vqte Os" the committee on arrangements that Gover nor and Mrs. Clyde R. Hoey 'be extended an invitation !to appear on the evening 'program August 1. Both I the Governor and Mrs. Hoey made a hit with the farm people in their pro gram appearances the past three years. Dan M. Paul, of State Col lege is secretary of the i-Farm and Home Week committee, and he has in vited suggestions for pro i gram features." MINUSES OF YANCEY COUNTY BAR > ASSOCIATION e r‘y BE IT REMEMBERED that on March 21st during the March Term, 1940 of the Superior Court of Yan cey, the following proceed ings were, had in memory of Garrett DeWeise Bailey: Honorable ' Fra n k M. Armstrong, Judge presid ing at said Term of Court asked the President of the Yancey County Bar Asso ciation to take charge. Thereupon, Mr. E. F. Wat son, President of the Yan cey County Bar Association took the chair. Upon mo tion of Mr. Charles Hutch ins, duly seconded and un animously carried. Dover R. Fouts was elected secre tary to succeed Mr. Garrett DeWeise Bailey. The Presi dent called upon Mr. Char les Hutchins, Chairman of the Resolutions Committee, who thereupon introduced Mr. R. W. Wilson, who read the attached Resolution. After the reading of the Resolution, a motion was made ( that thq same be ad opted and the following persons discussed said Re solution : Mr. R. W. Wilon, Mr. E. F. Watson, Mr. C P. Ran dolph, Mr. James Hutchins, Superintendent. ,of Yancey County Schools, Mr : B. M. Tomberlin, Principal of Burnsville High School, Mr. Bill Atkins, Mr. Charles Hutchins. Mr. Clarence Ridings, Solicitor of the 18th Judicial District. Thereupon, said Resolu tion was unanimously ad opted by the l Yancey Coun ty Bar Association and it was ordered that a copy of the proceedings be recorded in the Minutes of the Clerk of the Superior Court of -Yancey County, a copy be given tb The Yancey Re cord and a copy be trans mitted to the family of Honorable Garrett, De- Weise Bailey, deceased. Bailey * Yancey County Bar As sociation, being desirous of expressing in" seemly and formal .manner., .its deep Jense of regret and loss in the untimely passing of its fellow member, the Honor able G. D. Bailey, adopts the following resolution. We respectfully request the Judge of the Superior Court to allow the Yancey Bar Association to hold a memorial session during open court 21st ‘day of March, 1940, in which the members of the Bar and any other friends of the Honorable G. D. Bailey and his family may make such public expressions of res pect as they may desire and that: - - - The proceedings and min utes of this Bar Associa tion be spread upon the minutes of the March Term of the Superior Court, 1940, and that a copy hereof be furnished to newspapers circulated in this county and a copy be furnished to the family of our deceased brother. Mr. Bailey came from one of the outstanding families of the State. That family has contributed many of the finest citizens of North Carolina. Mr. Bailey was an out standing citizen, an honor able and capable lawyer. He was an outstanding Baptist leader in Yancey County. For many years he was teacher of the Men’s Bible class in Burnsville and while teacher of that class he did very unusual work in building up the class to a larger member ship than it had ever had before. He was a loyal “church worker in all of its activities. He received his license to practice law in 1913 and since that date was a well recognized lawyer of the i State. * In the year 1920 he wa. ' elected Solicitor of the 18th Judicial District and during his term of office he per formed the duties thereof without partiality and with ability.
