Myers preached an inter esting sermon at Concord church last Sunday July 21. ***** Lieut. Howard B. Lyon, of the U. S. Army Air Force, spent Tuesday i n Burnsville with relatives. Lieut. Lyon is at present located at the Govern ment airport at Middle town, Pa. He was accom panied to Burnsville by Miss Marie Burton of Weaverville, N. C., and Miss Maxine McCall, of Washington, D. His condition is reported favorable. Miss Mamie Evans and Carl Ray were the Sunday guests of Mr. B. H. Ray of Concord. Mrs. Sallie Autrey has been very ill for the past week, but is reported to be improving. Erlena Wheeler, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Wheeler, was rush ed to the Marion hospital Monday and operated on for appendidtis. She is re covering very fast. Mrs. Roy Autrey and Miss Edith Autrey visited at Marion last Wednesday. Edith, Muriel and Louis Westall visited relatives at Little Switzerland last Sunday. Mrs. E. M. Westall has gone to Little Switzerland to spend several days with her daughter. Lots of folks from this section have been attend ing the revival meeting at Micaville. Paul Westall of Marion visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Westall, Sum day. Earnest Autry of Spruce Pine is visiting relatives here. Mrs. Charles Godfrey of Hickory visited here last week. TOLEDO NEWS Mr. M. D. Bailey was in Marshall Saturday on bus iness. Bill Bailey left Monday morning for Raleigh where he will attend state 4-H club Short Course. Mary Edwards and Wal ter Whitson were married in Erwin, Tenn. Saturday. Rev. Monk will preach art Zion Baptist church Thursday, July 25. Misses Mary and Minnie Ross Ramsey spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson of Green Mtn. Mrs. M. D. Bailey has been very ill. The local base ball team captured another game from Tipton Hill Sunday, 9-5. 'They will play Bak ersville July 28 on the home grounds. Misses Steele and Miller are voting in the commu nity. BEE LOG ITEMS ’ The Lewis Family Re* union was held at Bee Log 1 on. Sunday, July 21. Among those who attended were Mrs. Ida Louden, Detroit, Mich.; Miss Ruth Lewis of Asheville, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Lewis of Whittier, Mr. and Mrs. Banner Lewis and son of Bryson City; Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Lewis, Mallie Lewis and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Taylor and children, all of Erwin; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bradford, Mrs. Bessie Edwards and Jack Higgins of Higgins; and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Lewis, Mrs. Ward Haney and son, Mrs. Oma Haney and daughter, Mr. and Mrs, H. B. Hensley, Bill Williams, all of Bee Log. Lunch was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Lewis at Bee Log. The most exciting hap- < pening in this community took place last Sunday when a mad dog attacked Tilden Fender near Bald Mtn. and bit him severely in the leg. The dog then went down Big Creek near the home of Martin Edw ards and passed two of his little girls on the highway, attacked one of them and left a bad wound on her leg. It then went further down the highway near Hensley’s store and bit Edd Pate of Bald Creek on the leg. All three who were bitten are' taking treatment. Allison Ed wards killed the dog but it is not known where it came from or to whom it belong ed. Scott Hensley and Ollie Williams are leaving for the C. C. C. Camp.
