G. H. flodges, pastor of the Bethel Methodist church of Spartanburg performed the ceremony. Mrs. Barnett is the daughter of Mr. ami Mrs. E. N. Stamey of Burnsville and Mr. Barnett is the son . of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Barnett of Mills Riv er. He has been manager of the Farmers Federation Warehouse here for the past two years but is now serving in the army and is stationed at Fort Jackson. VICTORY CLUB IS jQR GANIZEI) : Will Help With War Work The Burnsville- Victory Club was organized at a meeting at the club house on Tuesday evening. Officers were: president, Eddith Penland; vice president, Martha Hig gins; secretary and treas urer, Billie Marie Bennett; chairmen for Red Cross work: knitting, Bette Che adle, sewing, Billie Marie Bennett. Miss Dorothy Turner, home agent, is a member and will assist the girls.in their work of the club. In addition to Red Cross work the girls plan to co operate with the U. S. O. and with the sale of War Bonds and Stamps. All girls in Yancey co unty who are interested in war work are invited to join the Victory^,Club. Mrs. Newell is the former Miss Hazel Bolick. V GREEN MOUNTAIN Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Moore of Norfolk, Va. have pur chased the Warrick farm at the station from Bob Forbes and plan to build a new home in the near fut ure. Mrs." J. J. Sulivan and children of Columbus, Ga. have been visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howell for the past week, f Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ho well have moved back to the North Cove community in McDowell county where Mr. Howell is principal, and" Mrs. Howell teaches in the high school. Mr. and Mrs. 0. L. Young have as their guest Mrs. M. E. Bradshaw of Relief. Mrs. Laura Johnson is visiting her son, T. T. John son this week. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Davis and daughter of Knoxville visited Mrs. Davis’ mother, Mrs. D. D. Huffman last week end. George D. Turbyfill’s father,Wm. Turbyfill, pas sed away Sunday August 9th at his home in the Plea sant Gardens comunity in McDowell county. They brought him back to his old home place near Bak ersville for burial. Uncle Wiliam made his home in this community for many years and was loved by all who knew him. Newland Allen of Enka who was visiting* in .this community , preached an interesting sermon Saturday night in the ab sence of Rev. Drake. Homer Banks and son, D. 8., spent the week end with Mrs. T.
