Kenneth Robertson of the Marine Corps is home on a 30 day leave af ter returning to the New River base from 10 months duty in the Pacific area. Lt Jack Galloway was here on a short leave this week. Mrs. Galloway re turned to Virginia with him. Bruce Westell is now at the naval training. station, Camp Peary, Va. Cpl. Clarence Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Har ris, is at home on a short furlough. He is in the air corps and is stationed at Lincoln, Neb. C He is a first cousin of Jam es Thomas who recently re ceived the bronze star for heroic action in the Pacific area. Sgt. Elbert L. C., staff nurse with an evacuation hospital, has| served on the Allied Fifth J Army’s Anzio beachhead in Italy since February 9, be fore any other field or eva cuation hospital had been set up on the beachhead. Her first six weeks on the beachhead Lieutenant Peake was exposed to greater danger than at t any other time in her over seas career, but by now she has become accustomed to constant bombing and shell ing and accepts these con ditions calmly. There are four nurses in every pyramidal tent. The floor of each tent is about two feet below ground lev el, and each nurse has a foxhole. There are cots, electric lights, and room to move around. Charles Bailey who was recently reported as missing in action is now a prisoner of war in Ger many, according to a mes sage received by his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bailey of Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Burns ville. He is in the air corps. Missing In Action T. Sgt. Olin Chrisawn, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. S- Chrisawn of Hamrick, has been reported missing in action over Italy since April 28. He was 20 years old and was with the army air force. With the Amerieal Div ision on Bougainville—Pfc. Willis F. Fields, Burnsville, N. C. has been awarded the; Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the Japanese oil Bougainvilles. Pfc. Fields is a B. A R. rifleman in a veteran in fantry regiment. Fields has been in the South Pa cific area for 16 months, Fields received his educa-| tion in the Elizabeth Highi school of Elizabeth, Tenn.l Before induction into the , army, Fields was engaged in the agriculture industry. Griifeth was the son of “Aunt Cindy” and the late Sul Griffeth, widely known and highly respected color ed citizens of Burnsville.
