Laughrun will accompany them home for a visit. Mrs. G. C. Williams and Ralph Williams of Erwin were here last week visit ing relatives. Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Whee ler of Spartanburg who spent several days in the Great Smokies, stopped by to visit relatives and friends here enroute home. Mr. and Mrs. William S. Gardner and daughter are guests of Mrs. W. W. Sor rells. . Mr. and Mrs. Carmen McMahan left this week for Hillsboro where Mr. Mc- Mahan will be employed. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Briggs and Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Roberts of West Point, Va. visited friends and re-; latives in Burnsville dur ing the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Love of Chucky, Tenn. and Joyce King of Tusculum college visited Mr. and Mrs. R. A. King during the weekj end. Mr. King returned with them for a visit. PENLAND-STAMEY Miss Raylene Penland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rhea Penland of Burns ville, and Boyce Stamey were married in a candle light service at the Burns ville Baptist church Sun- I day afternoon at five ! o’clock. j Rev. E. J. Hall officiated, and members of the family and close friends attended Prior to the ceremony a program of music was pre sented by Mrs. Phillip Ray, organist, and Mrs. Kenneth Robertson, soloist. Mrs. Ray played “Salut D’Am our” and “Cantilene Nupti ale”, and “Leibestraum” was played during the cere mony. The traditional wed ding marches were used. The bride wore an aqua street length dress with accessories in brown and a corsage of gardenias. Following the ceremony the couple left for a wed ding trip through the Great Smokies. They will reside in Burnsville. Mrs. Stamey attended Mars Hill college and Ashe ville college and is employ ed with the county A. A. A. office. Mr. Stamey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Stamey of Burnsville. He joined the Marine Corps immedi ately following his gradua tion from Burnsville high school, and served for 30 months in the South Paci fic area. PIPES-JACOBS Announcement has beenj made of the marriage ofj Miss Katherine Pipe and Pfc. Floyd Jacobs, Jr. couple was married July| 8 in Clayton, Ga. They: were accompanied to Clay ton by a number of friends. Mrs. Jacobs is the daugh ter of Rev and Mrs. W. C.* Pipes of Franklin. She is a graduate of Franklin high school and is employed at Oak Ridge, Tenn. Pfc. Jacobs is the son of Mr. and] Mrs. Floyd Jacobs also ofj Franklin. He is stationed at Fort Dix, N. J. Mrs. H. G. Bailey spent the past w r eek with relativ es in Franklin, N. C. Howell of Green Mountain was selected by the student body to the office of assis tant business manager to the college year book staff, “The Ontaroga”. Mr. Howell is a freshman at the college this year and as a veteran is taking a very active part in all school activities.
