School, being located in Ramseytown Township, have become unneces sary for public school purposes signed an order in regular session on the 25th day of January, 1947, directing the sale of said buildings and the lots upon which they are located: - THEREFORE, by virtue of said order and the power invested in the Board of Education by the; laws of the state of North Caro-j lina, the said Board of Education of Yancey. County will offer for sale at public auction to. the high est bidder for cash, at H o’clock a. m., on the first day of March,; 1947, at the courthouse door at Burnsville, N. C., the following de. scribed property with the build ings thereon: FIRST TRACT, being located in Prices Creek Township, Yancey County, North Carolina, and known as the Horton Hill school property, described as follows: BEGINNING on a poplar at; the east bank of the road, runnnig east five poles to a sarvis; thence south four poles to a white oak thence west five poles to the road, thence with the road to the BE GINNING, containing one half acre, more or less. Geo.-M. Randolph. I Feb. 6, 13, ' Forest Fire Control Work Sixty Two Forest Fires Reported District One of the Northj Carolina Forest' Service with Headquarters at Ashe-j ville, N. C., releases the following information con- 1 cerning the forest fire con- 1 trol activities during the period July 1, 1946 to Dec- 1 ember 31, 1946. District one is composed 1 of eleven counties, six of Which cooperate with the State in forest fire coqtrbl. These counties are: Bun combe, Henderson, McDow- 1 ell, Polk, Rutherford and Yancey. The non-cooperating cou nties are: Madison, Mitch ell, Cleveland, Lincoln and Gaston. This report does not include these, counties, as no organized work in for est fire control is carried on in them on privately owned; forest land by the State or-, ganization. During' the six month! period July 1, to December 31, 1946, sixty two , report-1 able forest fires have oc-j ciirred in the six cooperat-j ing counties in District one: These fires burned a total of 399.9 acres of privately owned woodland. In the six cooperating counties there are 866,986 1 acres of forest area protect ed'by the North Carolina Forest Service. Yancey county, with 74,298 acres of ■ privately owned woodland, represents a heavy forest ered county in this district. This amount of forest acreage is of considerable value to the County and State. The people of Yancey county and the State of North Carolina are urged to cooperate with the State forest fire control organi zation in preventing forest fires, extingpishing small fires when one is observed,; reporting of fires location i to nearest forest fire war den'.'-’- ** M ■ - C.- .
