TOBACCO BEDS There are seven import ant questions that any to bacco grower should ask himself in regard to produc ing plants for next year 1. Have you already giv ,en serious thought to the care you will take in pro ducing next years crop— or will you delay and take chances of starting the crop with poor plants? 2. Did you know, it is ery dangerous not to prc.iuce your own plants? 3. Do you have, good seed 'to start with? 4. Have you selected ap propriate varieties? 5. Are you going to locate your bed in the woods or in well drained spot in the op en protected from cold winds 6. Are you going to let weeds and disease take your bed—or will you use recom mended chemical soil treat ment for weed and disease control ? 7. Will you let bluemold take your bed next sum mer? How to Control Weeds & Diseases in Plantbed Soil A mixture of Uramon and cyanamid has proved to be very effective in con trolling weeds and soil bor ne diseases. The treatment will save many hours of hand weeding and reduce chances oU many diseases appearing in the bed. If you have never used the chemi cals, it is recommended that you try it on only part of your beds and see how it works in your own soil. 1. The combination of Uramon and cyanamid giv es more effective weed and disease control than either chemical used separately. 2. Early growth of plants was better. 3. In tests, it took 6 times as much labor to weed an untreated bed as it did a treated one. When and how to apply— Should be as near 90 days before seeding as possible. 1. In October thoroughly pulverize soil. 2. Broadcast 2-3 of the Uramond - Cyanamid mix ture evenly over the bed and mix thoroughly with the upper 3 inches of soil with drag harrow, garden rake etc. 3. Broadcast 1-3 of the mixture and rake lightly intoAipper 1 inch of soil. 4. Mix well but not too deeply. 5. If soil is dry, wet the bed thoroughly. Uramon and cyanamid require mois ture to become active. The production of burley tobacco in North Carolina is estimated at 15,000,000 pounds. ■: . . , r y m 1 " Prop FIRES I \/rs UP TO YOU/ I Oil Soaked Trash Burm in a Flash!
