Mitchell in which is situated the grave of Dr. Elisha Mitchell, ex plorer and mathematician for whom the peak was named, was reestablished in a recently discovered do-, cument, according to an item in a recent issue of The Chapel Hill Weekly. The document was said to have been found by J. A. Warren, university treas urer, while he was going through some old papers. According to an account in the issue of the old Ral eigh Register for July 10, 1854, one of the owners and donors of the lot was N. W. Woodfin* prominent 'Asheville attorney and leg islator of the Civil War per iod for whom Woodfin street in Asheville is named A promise to deed the lot to the university was made by its previous owners, the account relates, on the oc casion of the reinterment on the peak of the body of Dr. Mitchell, who was a pro-1 fessor at the university and ! who was originally buried in the churchyard of the First Presbyterian church.
