Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tomberlin have taken an apartment in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Peterson in west Burnsville. Mr, and Mrs. R. A. Glenn i left Monday for Clinton where they will reside. Mr. Glenn is part owner of a new drug store which will be opened in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Far row of Leaksville were here during the past week to visit relatives and friends. B. M. In case of rain it will be held in the high school library. Saturday, August 14 The choral group, direct ed by W. C. DeVeny, will give a concert in the Play house at 8 o’clock. Frances and Mary Mar i tho Banks are home from Washington on a vacation visit. Miss Aldine Pleasant has returned from a visit with relatives and friends in New Mexico. She reports a wonderful trip. Mr. Burgin Mclntosh, one cf Burnsville’s most widely I known older citizens, is in a | very grave condition at his ' home in west Burnsville. | Born to Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hall of Burnsville a dau ghter on August 9 in an I Asheville hospital. Mrs. Banks Honored at Shower Mrs. Drate Banks was the honor guest at a miscellan eous shower given Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Joe Young. Mrs. Young and Mrs, W. W. Roberts were hostesses. The rooms were arrang ed with mixed summer flowers, and the dining table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with flowers and lighted candles.' Mrs. Ellis Moody received the guests and Mrs. Joshua Banks directed them to the dining room. Frances Banks was at the punch bowl and Mary Martha Banks kept ! the guest book. Others who assisted in , entertaining were Evelyn Briggs, Ruth Banks, June j Smith and Zula Smith. Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Bar nes of Gastonia were guests last week of Rev. and Mrs. B. J. Mclver. Hope Buck, field repre sentative of the American Red Cross, was at home this week end from Knox : ville. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Wray have returned to their home in Sanford, Fla. after a visit here with rela tives and friends. Miss Rebecca Low of: Summerville, S. C., is the' guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. G.; Low at their home near Burnsville. Miss Joyce Gillespie and Margaret Whistnant o f Morganton were the week: end guests of Miss Betty Jean Fortner of Micaville. Miss Fortner recently visit ed in Morganton, accomp anied by Miss Lila Smith, also from Micaville. Miss Margaret Ballew has returned to the City hospital, Baltimore, where she is completing a course in nurses training after spending two weeks vaca tion with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ballew of Burnsville Rt. 2. Mrs. Bill Bronson of j Greensboro was here to visit relatives and friends over the week end. RIVERSIDE NEWS I.ucretia Blankenship was the week end guest of Louise and Mary Lou Hall. Mr. and Mrs/TCrme Wil son visited Mrs. Glenn Brooks in West Asheville last week. Mrs. Brooks is ill. Mrs. Bessie Mae ‘ Austin is here from Baltimore on a vacation. Miss Ola Evans is visiting her parents this week. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor of Fordtown, Tenn., were here visiting relatives during the week end. Jonny Wyatt Presented Bicycle Prize Wednesday at noon Jon ny Wyatt of Newdale was presented a 1949 model Monarch bicycle at Presnell Bros, store by Pet Dairy Products Co. Jonny won this bike by writing the best slogan, “I Like Pet Ice Cream - s ”. The lucky boy, at the time he was presented with the bicycle, did not own one. The bike is the latdSt streamlined model, two tone paint job with lots of chrome trimming. It has white sidewall tires, a head light and a horn. It was also insured for 1 year against fire or theft.
