FARM AND HOME WEEK PLANS MADE FOR 1919 | I Plans for an outstanding ►North Carolina Farm and Home Week program for 1949 were made by State Qollege officials and agri cultural leaders of the State in a recent meeting at the College. Pate for the event was se as the second week in 'August, which is about two wee i s earlier than usual. Ik ginning on Monday, Au gust and continuing thro ugh,-Thursday evening, Au gust 11, the program will in lude general sessions and subject matter discussions each morning; tours, : de monstration:-, and visits to exhibits each afternoon; and addresses and recrea tional features each even ing. Several in t ernationally known speakers will be in vited to give addresses or lead discussions. Principal speakeis at the last Farm and Home Week, held in 1917, were General Dwight Eisenhower and Columnist Dorothy Thompson. On Thursday evening the principal feature will be an 'educational program on farm and home mechaniza tion during which several thousand dollars worth of prizes \vill*be awarded. DRIVER’S LICENSE All drivers with last names beginning with eith er E, F, or G, are required! to cake an examination for a driver’s license by Decem ber 31, as a part of the Highway Safety Act passed by the 1947 General Assem-: bly. The Department re-' ported that this group of drivers had been very slow, to report, and that if they procrastinated much longer it would mean they would have to wait in long lines to take their tests during the last few days of December, j Department officials also announced that the 100 ex amining station located throughout the-State would be closed several days around Christmas, and that motorists who put off their tests might find it impos sible to get them later, j There will be no exten sion to the deadline, the Department said, for E, F, and G motorists have had since last July to get these examinations. Beginning January 1, 1949,., persons with last' names beginning with H, I, J, and K will begin taking their tests. • .
