FARM NOTES Boyd Peterson of Ram seytown, a young farmer and former 4-H member is continuing his 4-H project with excellent results. In the fall of 1947 Boyd was awarded a registered Poland China Gilt through the Sears, Roebuck Pig Chain. This gilt was enter ed at the district pig show and won a registered Guer nsey heifer. This sow has farrowed 28 pigs in 3 litters out of which 23 pigs were raised. The pigs sold for S3OO. The sow is valued at $75.00. Boyd plans to raise two gilts out of the next litter as the demand for his pigs is much greater than his present supply. The heifer, now valued at $250, dropped a heifer calf three months ago and Boyd has refused SIOO.OO for this calf. The total value of all ani mals derived from the ori ginal 4-H pig is $725. His total expenses, including breeding fees, feed purch ased, home grown feed and miscellaneous expenses are $213.00 leaving a labor in come of $512. Boyd gives credit of his success to good breeding, pasture, a free source of water and good manage ment.
