Notice to Veterans
i Case records of World
i War II veterans whose ap
-1 plications for compensation
‘ for service-connected pul
-5 monary tuberculosis have
■ been rejected, are being
1 reviewed automatically to
‘ determine whether they
qualify for benefits under
the recetly-enacted Public
Law 573, the Veterans Ad
ministration announced to
day.
The new law increases
the “presumptive period”
for tuberculosis from one
year to three years from
date of from the
armed forces.
Presumption of service
connection means that, in
the absence of evidence to
the contrary, a disease wh
ich becomes manifest with
in the period to the extent
that it is at least 10 percent
disabling is presumed to
have had its origin while
the veteran was in service.
The VA said the new law
also applies to Spanish-
American war veterans,
and that their respected cla
ims also will be reviewed.
World War I veterans are
not affected, since they
were granted a comparable
presumptive period some
years ago.
In addition to these cases
the VA is conductingacom
plete review of the records
of all deceased World War
II and certain Spanish-
American veterans, includ
ing Philippine Insurrection
and Boxer Rebellion, which
show £ claim for death com
pensation has been dis
allowed for the reason that
the veteran's death was
not due to service. These
reviews will affect death
compensation or pension
claims if application of the
new law determines that
the veteran was eligible
for service connestion.
The VA will notify af
fected claimants automat
ically after a determin
ation has been - made in
each case.

THE YANCEY RECORD ’
V - PM A NEWS
As of July 31, 1950, Yan
cey County had approxim
-1 ately SIB,OOO left in the co
' unty pool to be used for the
1 remainder of the 1950 pro s
gram. ‘ Our 1950 program
ends October Ist, and the
money that is not used by
the farmers in Yancey
County will be taken from
this county. Therefore, the
county committee cannot
over emphasize the import
ance of .the farmers check
ing their needs and placing
their orders for their mat
erial to carry out their 1950
practices.
Many farmers have tak
en their full allowance whi
ch was set up for each farm
at the beginning of the
year but our records show
that a larger percent of the
farmers have not used any
of their allowance. For
those of you that have used
all of your allowance, the
county committee has ar
ranged that they may re
ceive tnore material if it is
needed. We are now issuing
orders for our winter crop
seeds (vetch,' austrian win
ter peas and ryegrass). Or
ders may also be issued* for
mixed fertilizer, phosphate,
pasture seeds, alfalfa and
ground limestone. It is hop
ed that any of the Yancey
farmers that need material
will contact the county of
fice immediately.
