No Highway Deaths To Date In County Highway accidents have taken no lives in Yancey County during the first nine months of 1950, Presi-J dent Coleman W. Roberts of the Carolina Motor Club] announced today on the basis of figures compiled by the State Division of Highway Safety. In the county, 9 have been injured in 31 accidents during the same period. For th e third quarter, ending October 1, 1950, there were 660 persons killed and 8,701 injured as a result of 19,601 traffic ac cidents on the streets and highways of North Caro lina. These totals represent an increase of nine per cent in deaths, 27 per cent in re ported injuries and 34 per cent in total reported traf fic accidents over the cor responding period of 1949. Traffic accidents during the sam e period of 1949 to-! taled 14,597 with 604 per- 1 sons killed and 6,928 per- 1 sons injured. Os the 19,601 accidents reported for the three qua rters of the year, 556 were fatal, 5,433 were non-fatal, and 13,612 resulted is prop erty damage. A married man with one child or a man with father and mother de pendent upon him may now enlist. Persons interested in re ceiving information con cerning either the army or air force should see Sgt.
