Born to Mr. and Mrs. Warren Goode of Burns ville a son, Saturday, Janu ary 20. Mr. Goode is with the Duplan Corp. here. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Hea vener and family of Lin /colnton spent ihe week end with relatives here. Bom to Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Roberts of Burns ville a son, Wednesday, January 24. Several people from Burnsville have attended the ice show in Asheville and report it to be very good. The Men’s Club met Monday evening in Rob erts & Johnson club room with 16 members present. Rev. and Mrs. David Swartz and Mrs. George Anglin are visiting is Fla. Mrs. W. R. York has re turned to her home in Asftieville spending two weeks with relatives in Burnsville. ' Miss Doris Penland Honored At Party Miss Hope Bailey enter tained at a bridge party . Saturday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Bailey, hon oring Miss Doris Penland whose wedding to Edgar jF. Hunter Jr., will take place February 3rd. Shoulder boquets were I presented to the guests jwhen they arrived. During! the evening, several pro-) gressions of bridge andi one table of canasta were in play. When scores were I tallied, prizes were award ed the winners. Mrs. John !B. Bennett received the j high score bridge prize and Mrs. Bruce Westalb the traveling prize. The canasta higjh score was won by Mrs. Arney Fox and the winning bingo hand was held by Mrs. Benett. Miss Penland was pre sested an honor gift of a> silver serving piece in her' chosen patern. A color note of white, green and pink was used in floral arrangements for the home and in the re freshments. Mrs. H. G. Bailey assisted the hos tess in serving a dessert course of ice-cream hearts, decorated bridal cakes and I mists, salted nuts and cof fee. Guests present for the event were: Miss Doris Penland. Mrs. Kenneth Robertson, Mrs. John B. Bennett, Mrs. Philip Ray, Mrs. Bruce Westall, Mrs. George Roberts, Mrs. Will iam Gladden, Mrs. Arney Fox, Miss Betty Hensley, Mrs. James Rsy and Mrs. Drate Banks. Sgt. Paul Bradford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Brad ford of Bee Log, has been home on a 30 day furlough Sgt. Bradford is attached to the Air Force and has been stationed in Germany for three years. We are sorry to learn that Mrs. Frank Huskins is in a Richmond, Va. hos pital again. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Nich ols of Knoxville, Tenn. were the week end guests of Mrs. Nichols’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Buck ner. Miss Hope Bailey who teaches in Wadesboro, N. C. spent last week end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Bailey. Miss Nettie Bennett spent last week end in Toledo with her sister, Mrs. R. A. Peak. Mrs. Hattie Horner of Wake Forest is visiting her sisters, Mrs. John Wat son and Mrs. Fred Proffitt of Bunsville. raft Evader Caught ■■:• LOS ANGELES, CALIF Sought for nine years on draft eva sion charges, Robert Cornelius Far land, 43, wealthy former Chicago lawyer, was arrested here by F.BJ. agents. The F. 8.1. said Farland registered for the draft in 1949, and fled from Chicago the following year. He was living here under the assumed name of Robert Cornelius Farwell, and was arrested while he was visiting his mother. / , A . . . A prize was i presented to the youngest 'child and to the oldest mother present. The children sang “Hap ipy Birthday” as Betty Jo blew out the four candles on her beautiful white and 'pink birthday cake. After Betty Jo had opened the many beautiful gifts pre sented to her, refresh ments were served by the hostess.
