Mitchell Mr. and Mrs. Lawerenee 1 Pearce of Jacksonville, Fla. were guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. James Bing- J ham at Camp Mt. Mitchell] for Girls where their dau ghter Peggy Pearce is in camp. Mr. and Mrs. Pearce were so charmed with the i scenery and climate here that they purchased an . acre on Cattail Creek [ where they will build a i summer home. Mr. Pearce is a 1 builder and a sub-di vision developer in Jack sonville. With his family , and parents, he. has spent other summers in High Hampton Inn at Cashiers ! and at Henderson. Mr. Pearce’s parents are > now guests at the Nu-Wray [ Inn for a short vacation. Mr. and Mrs. James Far quhar of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. were guests of their daughter Lynn at Camp Mt. Mitchell for Girls and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bingham for some time this week. Mr. Farquhar has a large cattle ranch at Davies, Fla. and is presi dent of the Everglades Sod Co. Pvt. Edward B. York, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. York of Rt. 1, Burnsville, N. C., was home for the week end. Private York is stationed at Camp Atter bury, Indiana and is at tached to the 28th Inf. Division. THE YANCEY RECOKE ’ Halls Chapel News Rev. D. M. Branch, pas tor of the First Baptist Church at Kannapolis, haß nearly completed his sum mer hoipe here. Rev. Bran ch was 4 here on business I last Friday and he plans to bring his family up for va-| cation about the first of August. Dr. J. Leo Green and family have come to their home for the summer. Dr. Green’s home formerly was owned by R. P. Sisk. Mr. and Mrs. Ed McNeil of Hickory visited friends and relatives in this sec tion Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Edge and family were the Sun day guests of Mrs. Edge’s 1 sister, Mrs. Merrit Smith of Celo. D. E. Allen has returned to his mining operations in Virginia. Dr. Leo J. Greene, for merly of the First Baptist Church at Gainesvillle, Fla., will preach at Halls Chap el Saturday and Sunday nights of this week. Every [one is invited to attend the 1 services. There will also be a De coration at the Grindstaff Cemetery here Sunday at 11:00 o’clock. Renowned Surgeon Attend ing Painting Classes Dr. Allen 0. Whipple, re ' nowned surgeon of New York City, is a student again this year at the Bur nsville Painting Classes. Dr. Whipple received the highest medical award pre sented in the United States this year. He was present ed the American Medical Association Award for the most outstanding work in medicine for the year 1950. This summer is the third season Dr. and Mrs. Whip ple have attended the Painting Classes. Xrs. Hig gins was chosen by the Sou thern Highland Handicraft Guild, which brought to gether more than 100 mem bers for their fourth an nual Fair, because of her skill in the craft of rug ,making. The Guild is a 1 non-profit organization of craftsmen and others who are inter ested in preserving the handicrafts of the South ern Mountain area.
