B. Alderman, Pastor fl Burnsville Methodist Church HHHH Most country boys have so mucti in common that they al most have a language all their own. Take, lor instance, a “wash-hole” —a Saturday night scrub in a number 2 wash-tub, or riding a mule or horse piggy back, branch wading, or’ as some people say, wading a ford.] 1 could go on naming them, but many people would not know, what I was talking about. I remember when I was a boy i living on the farm, we really' had a big time. The first rain ! in May was the time for us to get wet. I was told that if you got wet by rain in May you would not be sick during the] Summer. I don’t know howi true it was, but this boy always] took advantage of the Spring shower and got wet the first chance he could. ’ Then I would head for the ( branch and go wading. That was more fun than making an | old cat leave home. Maybe you ( have never tried that, but it’s lots of fun, too. Another thing, have you ev er ridden a horse or mule piggy, back without a saddle? I didn ( know what a saddle was until 1 was grown. We rode without them. That is if the animal was in any condition to rid that way. I remember very painfully a few that were not We had an old mule named “Queen” that seemed to know that if she didn’t get fat, she wouldn’ have to mess with us boys. We walked rather than ride h'er. Then those Saturday night scrubs. They came around so often, especially in winter time. No running hot water —we got out the old number 2 washtub for that scrubbing. That was just as regular as Saturday came, and most if the time it was too regular for us. Bath SUNDAY, February 24, 1952 WE INVITE YOU TO COME SHARE OUR SERVICES WITH US 10 O’clock A. M. When I saw my first one, 1 didn’t know what it was un I til someone told me it was some-] thing to get the Saturday night scrub in. Boy, it was really, I something to get into a lot of i water like that. You could al-]. I most lay down and take a nap ;in it. It looked as if you were 1 ! wasting a lot of water, too. j All this sounds foolish now, j but we enjoyed those good old i days. We are glad, though’ for i our present advancement, for I i would hate, as big as lam now, i to have to get into a number 2 i wash tub again. I There is one thing 1 men 1 tioned that 1 haven’t said much 1 about —the community “wash- I hole”. We boys searched the 1 creek banks for years to find it, 1 then it was the center of at : traction for several meetings I each week. Now when I think of it lam reminded of a real Biblical truth. j We didn’t have a modern spring-board. We only had an old, nubby tree cut off and tied i down to spring form. It wasn’t | much, but we could get into the water with a nice splash. We have a spring board of sered us in our Bible with ference to the best life. It is Prayer. Prayer is the spring board of real life. You can tell when you come in contact with people if they have been with the Father. Christ said, “Enter thou into your closet and shut the door.” That is a good way to say, get on the spring board of life —Prayer and dive into the depth of real liv ing with God. We cannot prac tice Christian living without Prayer.
