Hensley, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Leslie Hen sley of Burnsville, is receiving instruction in the Naval Reserve 1 Officers Corps while attending Duke University at Durham. , Upon successful completion of Naval Science courses and other university studies, the midshipmen will be commiss ioned Ensigns, USNR, or Sec ond Lieutenants, USMCR. Johnnie Wyatt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Wyatt of Route 2, Burnsyille, is scheduled to graduate from recruit training November 23 at the Naval Training Center at Great Lak es, 111. The nine weeks of “Boot Camp” includes drill and in struction in seamanship, gun nery, life saving, sea survival, boat handling, and the use of small arms. Specialist Third Class James D. Simmons, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Addern Simmons of Ham rick, is participating .in Exer cise Sage Brush in Louisiana. Simmons, a member of Com pany A in the 82d Airborne Div ision’s 782 d Ordnance Battalion, is regularly stationed at Fort Bragg. He entered the Army in May 1954 and received basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. Western Carolina Purchases Another Phone Exchange Purchase of the Robbinsville Telephone Co. by the Western Carolina Telephone Co. has been approved by the State Utilities Commission, according to an announcement from Raleigh. Western Carolina Telephone Co. already operates exchanges in Bakersville, Burnsville, and several other towns. The company said it planned to improve and extend telephone service in the Robbinsville area as it has done in the past in portions of Mitchell, Yancey and other counties.
