Welzie Riddle, Jr., returned f Dec. 31 to Grace Hospital where she is in nurses training. Evelyn had been at home for two weeks recuperating from an appendectomy. Mr. and Mrs. Reece King of Baltimore, Md., spent the Christmas Holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hylemon. Mr. and Mr.s. Reece Robert son and family have been visit ing Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Rob ertson at Jackson Training School in Concord, N. C- where Mr. Robertson is Assistant Superintendent. Mrs. George Young of Boon ford was the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs". Robert Presnell here. Mr. and Mrs. John Bennett and daughter, Joy, of Asheville visited relatives here last weekend. Elwood Lahner, Misses Don na and Wilma Hall of Balti more, Md., and Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Gentry of Miami, Fla. were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs; S. G- Hall of Mica ville.; Dr. Cameron F. Mcßae, dis ■ trict health officer, attended two state-wide conferences of local health offices on Jan. 4 and 5, in Raleigh. During the trip, he revisited the Univer sity of North Carolina, of which he is a graduate, Harry F, Johnson, Buffalo genealogist and editor of “Your Ancestors”, visited Dr. C. F. Mcßae this week. Mr. Johnson spent the greater part of 1953 with Dr. and Mrs. Mcßae. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Roland and sons have returned to Rhode Island after, spending the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Emory Roland. ...... Mr. and Mrs. Walter Iradella have returned to Baltimore, Md. after spending the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Grant Mc- Curry and family. Mrs. Clyde Whisnant, presh dent of District I of the State Rental Auxiliary, will attend a meeting of the Executive Board of the organization at Pine hurst on January 15, BALD CREEK NEWS By Mrs. Harold Burton Mr. and Mrs. Earl Blanken ship and daughter, Deborah, have returned to Washington, D. C., where Mr. Blankenship holds a position in the office of Amvets National Headquarters, They spent the Christmas Holi days here with friends and with Mr. Blankenship’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Blanken ship, of Prices Creek, lYe’re sll glad to know that Mrs. Bruce Tomberlin is now well enough to resume her teaching duties at Bald Creek High School. The Woman’s Society of Christian Service held their monthly meeting last Tuesday night in the Ladie’a Lounge of the Bald Creek Methodist Church. Mrs, Max Proffitt was to have been hostess, but due to the illness of her son, Steph en, she could not be there. Miss Carrie Maye Blanken ship, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Blankenship of Burns ville, became the bride of S. Sgt. Chester L. Canipe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Canipe of Green Mountain, Saturday ev ening at 8 o’clock. The double ring ceremony was peerformed at the home of the Rev. Ralph Young, former pastor of the bride. The bride wore a mauve faille princess style dress with matching satin hat and navy accessories. The couple were attended by Mrs. Carl Peterson, cousin of the bride, who served as matron of honor, and Paul Webb who 1 served as best man. The bride is a graduate of Burnsville High School and Pack Square Beauty School. She is presently employed at Randolph’s Beauty Shop in Burnsville. The groom is a graduate of Warren-Wilson High School and attended War -en Wilson College and Burns ville Evening College. He has served four years with the U. S. A. Mrs. Ransell and daughter, Sylvia, reutrned with Mfs, Jamerson for a visit here with relatives, Vance Riddle, who is em ployed in Atlanta, Ga., spent the holidays at home with hIS parents, Mr- and Mrs. Pearson Riddle, Edgar Atkins has "returned home after being on construc tion work in Fairbanks, Alaska. Bob Riddle of the Navy spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Riddle. Mr- and Mrs. Frank Wilson had all their family at home for the holidays: Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Pruett and son, Dennis, of Knoxville, Team, Mr, and Mr#. Kncq Qotes of Asheville, Mr. and Mrs, Jay Styles and daughter, Debby, of Asheville, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pate and children. Roland Gardner came down from Cleveland, Ohio, where he is employed, to spend the holi- Rev. Warren S. Reeve, Mrs. Margaret Laughrun, and Mr. Olen Shepard represented the Burnsville Presbyterian Chur ch at the meeting as the Pres bytery of Holston held in the Salem Presbyterian Church, Washington College, Tennessee on Tuesday of this week. The Rev. Reeve was at that time re ceived into the Presbytery from the field at Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, where he had formerly served. Mrs. Margaret McCurry, who has been ill for several weeks, is improving. Misses Gladys and Lola Rob inson have returned to Green sboro where they are employed after spending a two-week va cation with friends and rela tives here. Brown Buchanan left this week for Baltimore, Md. where he will be employed, v v v Mr, and Mrs, Troy Christian and small son have, moved to Toledo, Ohio; where Mr- Chris tian will be employed. Misses Suzanne and Rebecca Johnson of Spruce Pine spent the week end* with Mrs. Grace Harris. Miss Trula Sparks has accept-) ed a posotion in Morganton. Mr. and Mrs. Kelse Branch of Asheville visited friends and relatives here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Johnson and daughters visited Mr, Johnson’s mother in Statesville last week end, days with his family, Bobby Ray has gone to Cleve land, Ohio, to work- We have had quite an epide mic of measels, and so many of our children have been sick. We hope that she recovers soon and will be back home* with her family. Everyone in the com munity misses her in church too as she is our song leader, as well as a good neighbor. Church attendance has not been very good for several Sun days due to the bad weather. In this new year, let’s ask everyone who is not in church to attend. We are always glad to welcome them. Mrs. Angus Masters return ed to the -Rutherfordton Hospi tal last week for her regular check up. We hope she will be in perfect health again soon. She hasn’t been able to be ac tive for sometime and we miss hs* so much in the W. S. C. S., and club meetings. She was al ways an active member ready to do her part. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Brandon visited Mrs. Etta Deyttn and Mrs. Brandon’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Hughes, dur ing the holidays. Mr. Brandon is making a career in the Ser vice. His family lives near the l ost where he can be with them. The women vs the Methodist Church and Home Demonstra tion Club gave fruit baskets to the shut-ins at Christmas.- All din* members were proud to help with this as we Wanted each shut-in to know that we remember and love them. A. C. Green of Erwin, Tenn., was here on business last week, and as he was driving toward heme, lys car left the, road and turned over several times. Mr. Green wasn’t hurt but the car ’was badly damaged. \ Raul Gortney’s small daugh ter! Nancy, has been ill with Flu. Mrs. 0. W. Deyton is work ing as the .. Assistant Home Agent in Mitchell County. Claude Whitson and Willie Mae Freeman were married during Christmas.
