Rabies Clinic Scheduled Saturday A rabies clinic will be held at the Animal Shelter, located 3Vi miles east of Burnsville on the Mine Fork road, on Saturday, April 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 p. m. According to‘R. B. Deyton, dog warden, there are still about 50 per cent of the dogs in Yancey County that haven’t been vacci nated. Mr. Deyton would like to encourage everyone who owns a pet to have it vaccinated against rabies. Th e price for vaccination, which will last for three years, is only SI.OO per animal. According to the North Caro lina law, every dog must be vac cinated against rabies by the time he is six months old. Don’t wait The child that is bitten may be your own. 4-H’ers Receive , Strawberry Plants Seven Yancey County 4-H Club members received their orders of I*7oo Tennessee Beauty strawber ry plants last week, according to Assistant County Agent Roger Hyatt. These 4-ITers believe that they can produce strawberries for the home and also, if they do a good job, produce some for sale in their communities, Mr. Hyatt said. When these club members re ceived their plants, they were ad vised to set the plants in rows four feet apart. The plants should be two feet apart in the row and fer tilized with 800 lbs. per acre of 8-8-8 fertilizer. Strawberry plants* should be set deep enough so that all roots are covered, but shallow, enough so the crown is above the soil 'line. The 4-H’ers, who stay in straw berry production year after year, will find this crop about cs profit able as any other crop on the farm, Mr. Hyatt stated. | Announcement I hereby a:\nounce my candi dacy for member of the Board of Education of Yancey County, sub ject to the will of the Democratic Primary to be held May 31, 1958.
