James Mc- Clure Clarke, Farmers Federation president, acted as master of ceremonies and introduced the many speakers and. entertainers of the day. -—•- Clarke presented 4-H Pullet Chain Achievement certificates to members of the Yancey and Mit chell County pullet chain groups, which are sponsored by the Fed eration. Yaneey members receiving awards were Melba Presnell, Rt. 2, Burnsville; Barry Mayberry, Celo; Glenda Cook, Rt. 2, Burns ville; Wanda Johnson, Rt. *2, Bur nsville; Helen Hughes, Rt.l 1, Green Mountain; Marilyn Wilson, Rt. 3, Burnsville; Johnny Honey cutt, Rt. 1, Relief; Margaret Bank, Rt. 1, Burnsville; A. J. C.’s AGING CITIZENS Governor Hodges' official state ment dedicating the week of July 13-19 as a week in which to honor [ North Carolina’s aging, ~citizens .finds both interest and varied activity in Yancey County, accord- I ing to a statement by B. G. Deyton, j county superintendent of public welfare. -- i There are a total of 400 persons G 5 or older who are receiving old age assistance through the connty welfare department, L. G. Deyton said. Thes e persons have been found to be in need according to J - a uniform budget used state-wide. 1 * The average monthly grant given to these persons is $30.73. In addition to money grants, I various non-financial casework service? are available for older people and others through the county department of public wel fare. These casework services * are available to people in all walks of life no matter what their economic level may be. A total of 81 non-financiaL ser vices were given to approximately 81 persons during the month of Jun e by the staff of the county welfare department. One of the specialized services provided through th e county wel fare department and the State Board of Public Welfare is coun ■ sel as to suitable licensed boarding homes for the aged. There are now over 350 licensed homes in 83 counties.
