TWO MINUTES WITH THE BIBLE BY CORNELIUS R. STAM PRES. BEREAN BIBLE SOCIETY CHICAGO 35, ILLINOIS THE DEATH OF THE CROSS There are four words which evlfry one of us should consider in connection wthUhrist’s death at Calvary if we would fully ap predate what our Savior d‘d for us there. CRUCIFIXION It is doubtful wheth k man has ever conceived a more cruel and humil ating way to execute even the vilest criminals. The physical agony alone must have been hor rible to even contemplate. The criminal was nailed to a tree and 1 left to hang there, ‘wr thing in : the most intense pain until, f-Vers wracking his, body, he died. And then think of the humil ation as he was nailed th he, stripped and! naked, to suffer shame and dis-! grace before the public gaz.i. Lit tle wonder Phil. 2:8 says that] Chrst humbled Himself to become obedient “unto death, even the d bth of the cross.” SUBSTITUTION We have net even begun to un derstand the cioss if we do not understand 'that Christ di d there as our Substitute, paying for our j sins. “Christ d'ed for our 'sins” (11 Grassroots Opinion LE ROY.
